Labor & Delivery with Extra Care

Pregnant Mother In CarWhen You Arrive

Our goal at Enloe’s Nettleton Mother & Baby Care Center, sometimes referred to as “the mother baby” unit or the “Mother Baby Care Center,” is to help you have the birth experience you desire. When it’s time for your hospital delivery, please go to the Registration area on Enloe’s first floor. A care team will be notified and come down to assess you.

If your labor is progressing, you’ll be admitted into the hospital, and we’ll move you into a spacious, private room in our birth center. There, your care team will ask you about your preferences for labor pain management. Please let them know if you would like an epidural early on.

The rooms in our maternity unit offer many of the comforts of home along with leading-edge medical equipment. Our birthing suites include:

  • A sleeping area for a loved one
  • Private bathrooms with whirlpool tubs
  • Wireless fetal monitoring for easy movement
  • Access to squat bars and birthing balls for labor positions that can help your labor progress
  • Relaxing aroma therapy
  • Free Wi-Fi and TV
  • And more

Want to see our birthing center for yourself? Watch our virtual tour in English or Spanish.

COVID Pregnancy

Enloe is doing everything we can to keep you and your family safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. See what you can expect if you deliver here during these times. As of today, patients in Enloe’s Nettleton Mother & Baby Care Center may have two support persons present per day. View our temporary visitation policy.

A Note About Photos & Filming

Pursuant to California law, you cannot film, record, disclose or distribute images of, or conversations with, Enloe caregivers without their consent.

Mother holding newborn babyThe Birth Experience

Safe, healthy outcomes and making you feel at ease are top priorities in Enloe’s maternity unit. Our trusted local obgyn doctors, midwives and prenatal maternity nurses have years of experience, and are there for moms every step of the way, whether you’re having a vaginal birth, a caesarean section (C-section), or a trial of labor after cesarean (TOLAC), a planned or attempted vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC).

When you’re in our birthing center, you decide who you want in your birthing suite during labor. And when it’s time, you can watch your baby being born, reflected in a mirror, and dads or birth partners are invited to cut the umbilical cord.

After labor, one of our caregivers will help you feed your baby with skin-to-skin contact. This is beneficial to the two of you and is an area of pride for Enloe Medical Center as the first Baby-Friendly hospital in Butte County.

After recovering from labor and delivery in our childbirth hospital, parents get to push a button in our birthing center to play Brahms’ Lullaby throughout the hospital before they move into a private Couplet Care room for postpartum care.

Babies remain with their moms in these rooms unless medical conditions prevent it.

Each Couplet Care room has a private bathroom with a shower and furniture to accommodate an overnight guest. During your stay, caregivers will be by your side to provide insight on:

  • Mom and newborn care
  • Feeding your baby
  • And more

You’ll get this material in a booklet you’ll take home with you. You’ll also enjoy fresh, healthy meals during your stay in our childbirth hospital and a special meal to celebrate your baby's arrival.

Heading Home

If you have a vaginal hospital delivery, you can expect to go home on the first or second day after your labor in our birth center. If you have a C-section in our birthing center, expect to go home on the third or fourth day after birthing your baby.

You will be discharged from the hospital around 11 a.m. Please arrange for a ride home and have a car seat for your baby. Before you leave the hospital, let your obstetrician (OB GYN doctor), your baby’s doctor or your nurse know if you have any questions.

Questions About Our Hospital Delivery Cost?
