Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery

Urogynecology Services

A female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgeon, also known as a urogynecologist, or urogyn, is a physician who has special training to diagnose and treat women with pelvic floor disorders.

Urogynecologists are physicians who complete medical school and a residency in obstetrics and gynecology, or urology with additional years of fellowship training and certification in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery.

Their training provides expertise in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of conditions that affect the muscles and connective tissue of the female pelvic organs. These physicians are also knowledgeable on the latest research in the field pertaining to these conditions.

Enloe Medical Center offers highly specialized urogynecology services and expertise in vaginal surgery if all nonsurgical options have been explored. If you suffer from a pelvic floor disorder, contact us to get the help you need. There’s no need to see multiple specialists, or travel to Sacramento or the Bay Area. You can see a board-certified surgeon right here in Chico.

Who Should See a Urogynecologist?

According to the National Institutes of Health, one-third of women in the United States suffer from a pelvic floor disorder. If you're having pelvic floor issues, ask your doctor for a referral.

Our caring and compassionate team can treat:

  • Female pelvic floor disorders: pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence/accidental bowel leakage, complicated constipation and defecatory dysfunction
  • Vaginal disorders: fistulas, postpartum vaginal tears and pain, as well as skin disorders
  • Female sexual dysfunction: dyspareunia (painful sexual intercourse) and persistent genital arousal disorder
  • Chronic pelvic pain: interstitial cystitis, pelvic floor spasms, vulvodynia and pudendal neuralgia
  • Overactive bladder symptoms
  • Recurrent urinary tract infections

Robotic Surgery for the Urogynecologic Patient

In severe cases of pelvic organ prolapse, surgery is often recommended. Enloe’s urogynecology specialists offer a full range of surgical options for patients, providing the least invasive treatment to match the patient’s specific needs.

Robotically assisted laparoscopic surgery is a state-of-the-art approach that is rapidly gaining popularity. The da VinciTM robot provides high resolution, 3D visualization with enhanced arm movement that includes greater dexterity than that of the human arm to provide superior instrumentation of tissues and operative precision.
