Know the Signs

The common cold is easy to identify: a runny nose, sneezing and congestion. But what about cancer? Its symptoms can be less obvious. Learn what to look for to protect yourself and your loved ones.

Cancer Symptoms

The Enloe Regional Cancer Center treats an array of cancers, including ovarian cancer, prostate cancer and colon cancer. If you think you are experiencing a sign of cancer, please get in touch to be assessed by our expert caregivers.

Symptoms of ovarian cancer can include:

  • Vaginal bleeding (particularly if you are past menopause)
  • Vaginal discharge that is not normal for you
  • Pain or pressure in the pelvic area
  • Abdominal or back pain
  • Bloating
  • Feeling full too quickly or difficulty eating
  • A change in your bathroom habits, such as more frequent or urgent need to urinate and/or constipation

Symptoms of prostate cancer can include:

  • Difficulty starting urination
  • Weak or interrupted flow of urine
  • Frequent urination, especially at night

Talk to Your Doctor

In the past 20 years, the number of cancer survivors has increased, thanks in part to cancer screenings. They help your care team find cancer when it’s easier to treat. For instance, a mammogram can detect breast cancer before you feel a lump, and there are several colon cancer tests that can be used to prevent or find the disease. However, not all cancers have screening tests, so it’s important to know the signs and talk to your provider.

Do you have a family history of cancer? Ask your doctor about genetic testing. Enloe offers it and:

  • Lifetime breast cancer risk assessment
  • Evaluation for hereditary cancer syndromes
  • Follow-up
