Enloe Advanced Imaging is ready to care for you using a compassionate, personalized approach. Our trusted caregivers are board certified and pride themselves on keeping up with the latest imaging technology.

They work closely with your doctor to ensure you have a fast, accurate diagnosis by performing procedures, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET) services and more.

MRI Scan

This painless and non-invasive test uses strong magnets, radio waves — instead of radiation — and a computer to produce a detailed image of your organs, tissue or skeletal system. Enloe Advanced Imaging has two high-field MRI scanners, and the newest offers a spacious area that can help reduce feelings of claustrophobia.

An MRI can take 30-90 minutes, depending on the area being scanned and whether you’re having a contrast enhanced MRI.

man getting a CT scanCT Scan

This procedure, sometimes called a CAT scan, creates cross-section pictures of your body, producing detailed images of your organs, tissue and bones. CT scans are more detailed than normal X-rays and involve exposure to radiation. They are not recommended for pregnant women or children unless necessary.

Our helical multi-slice scanner is a 64-slice system, which provides a faster scan, unprecedented image detail and less radiation. In some cases, a contrast material may be given orally or through an IV. Just like an X-ray, a CT is painless. This scan can take 5-10 minutes.

PET Scan

A PET scan images the cellular function of your body. Combining multiple scanning technologies, it allows us to more accurately diagnose and identify cancer, heart disease, and brain disorders, often earlier than other studies. Enloe Advanced Imaging is the only Enloe department to offer this technology.

Breast MRI

A breast MRI can provide information about your breast structure that may not be visible with a mammogram or ultrasound. Caregivers may use this technology if you have a higher risk of breast cancer due to strong cancer genes. We may also use it to stage cancer, evaluate a patient’s response to chemo, differentiate scar tissue from recurrent breast cancer and examine the breast tissue of women who have implants.

Before your appointment, it is important to review the following items carefully as they could interfere with your exam. Please notify us if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have any of the following conditions so arrangements can be made for your exam to proceed as planned.

If you’re having an MRI, let your care team know if you have:

  • A pacemaker or defibrillator
  • A brain aneurysm clip
  • Breast tissue expanders (not implants)
  • A cochlear implant
  • Metallic objects or fragments in your eye
  • Metallic implants*
  • An electronic implant or device

*Be prepared to show your implant identification card.

If you’re having a CT with IV contrast, let your care team know if you had lab work within the last six weeks that included creatinine, BUN and GFR levels if you:

  • Are 60 years old or older
  • Had renal insufficiency or kidney disease
  • Have a known allergy to iodine contrast

Please have the lab or your physician fax your results to us before your appointment.

If you’re having a PET/CT scan, let your care team know if you have:

  • Diabetes — Eat and take your insulin or oral medication as directed. Generally, blood sugar levels should be below 150 mg/DL before the scan.

On the day of your appointment, please dress comfortably and warmly. Avoid metallic zippers, snaps, buttons and underwire bras, and remove all of your jewelry.
