Volunteer Service Areas

Volunteers at Enloe Health enhance the experience of our patients and their families. They provide services and care that complements the outstanding service of our caregivers.

The best gift a volunteer can give is the gift of time: time to escort a visitor to his or her destination, time to run a delivery errand for a nurse, or time to sit and chat with a patient. All these actions help Enloe provide exceptional service. Learn about our volunteer service areas below.

Gift Shop

The Enloe Health Gift Shop associates provide a caring retail environment for staff and visitors inside the hospital’s beautiful shop. The Gift Shop is the largest fundraiser of the Enloe Health Volunteers. Learn more about what the Gift Shop has to offer.

Guest Services

Guest Services volunteers help create a welcoming environment.

The Main Lobby Guest Services volunteers greet and escort visitors to their destinations. These volunteers also run non-medical errands, like transporting specimens from nursing units to the lab, delivering patient belongings, mail and gifts, and helping escort patients off their unit. These volunteers provide valuable and meaningful support to both Enloe's Guest Services and the Admitting departments.

The Enloe Health Outpatient Center Guest Services volunteers respond to the needs of patients, staff and visitors. These volunteers play an important role in helping people stay informed and comfortable, assist with wayfinding, and support the clinical staff as requested.

The Guest Services volunteer program needs volunteers for the Enloe Health Outpatient Center. Apply for this program.

College Program

College program volunteers help create a welcoming and compassionate environment in the Enloe Health Emergency Department by responding to the needs of patients, staff, and visitors.

These volunteers play an important role in helping people stay informed and comfortable, escorting patients to other hospital locations, and supporting the clinical staff as requested.

Mother Baby

  • Mother Baby Unit Support: These volunteers assist caregivers in Enloe Health’s Nettleton Mother & Baby Care Center during recurring, regularly scheduled weekly shifts. While on shift, volunteers will prioritize the needs of infants with neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) before performing generalized nursing unit support tasks. These volunteers make up the core of the program by working a weekly 3-hour shift. Shifts are offered seven days a week at the following times: 6-9 a.m., 9 a.m. to noon, noon to 3 p.m. and 3-6 p.m.
  • Mother Baby Cuddle Care Call List Only: These volunteers assist the mother and baby unit on an as-needed basis. On-call list volunteers monitor the phone line, coordinate coverage and provide cuddling, as needed, when unit-based volunteers are not scheduled. Shifts are offered seven days a week at the following times: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Caring For You Cart

Enloe Health’s Caring For You Cart, a mobile hospitality service, is accepting applications. Volunteers in this role push the cart through Enloe’s visitor lounges, greeting guests with complimentary refreshments and small comfort items like coloring pages, puzzle pages, blankets and more.

This service can make a big difference for patients and their loved ones because it enables volunteers to set them at ease with a warm welcome and some friendly conversation.

Complementary Therapies

Some community members share a very specific talent with our patients and visitors.

Massage and Reiki volunteers provide short sessions to patients and caregivers to promote relaxation.

Volunteer musicians help to create a healing environment by playing soothing, pleasant music. This helps to reduce anxiety, provides diversion and supports a sense of well-being.

Patient Ambassadors

Patient Ambassadors are a highly trained group of volunteers who provide visitation and advocacy for our patients at the bedside. These volunteers round from room to room on an assigned floor, meeting non-medical needs, providing emotional support and partnering with staff in providing a caring environment.

Patient Ambassadors are compassionate, good listeners and emotionally mature. Volunteers in this program commit to a minimum of 18 months of service after completion of training.

The Patient Ambassadors program needs volunteers for the Enloe Health Regional Cancer Center. Apply for this program.

P.A.W.S. (Pets Assisting With Service)

Pet teams provide joy and diversion by visiting patients, visitors, and staff members. Not just any dog can be a volunteer! The pet and its human handler must be registered with Pet Partners, Therapy Dogs International, or The Alliance of Therapy Dogs, nationally recognized nonprofit organizations that certify animals and handlers to ensure safety and standards in the health care setting.

Once your dog is certified with one of these organizations, the human end of the team can become an official Enloe Health volunteer. Pet visits are rewarding to patients and staff, as well as volunteers (both human and animal).

Spiritual Care

The Enloe Health Spiritual Care Volunteer (SCV) Program serves Enloe by providing for the spiritual well-being of the patients, families and staff of Enloe, regardless of their faith tradition, or those whose spirituality is experienced away from religious context.
