2026 Enloe Health Foundation Scholarship Opportunities

Find the list of scholarships that are available for the 2026 application period below. Please note the individual requirements and eligibility requirements before you apply. All details may be updated as we communicate with our donors. Please be aware of these important dates:

  • Applications will open on March 2.
  • Applications will close on May 1 at noon.
  • The scholarship awards ceremony will take place on June 17 at 3 p.m.

Advanced Practice Providers

New in 2026: Ken Owen PA-C Memorial Scholarship

Ken Owen was an amazing ambassador of the physician assistant profession. His intelligence and adaptability led him through several specialties throughout his career. This included positions in primary care, urgent care, orthopedic surgery, oncology, trauma surgery and colorectal surgery. His experience and dedication to patient care made him a sought-after provider. Ken took time to encourage, mentor and lead his peers and colleagues. He was loved and respected. He will forever be missed, but his legacy will be honored through this memorial scholarship. 

Award Amount
One $1,000 scholarship award.

Eligibility
Must be a Butte County resident enrolled and/or accepted into an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.

Application Requirements
Transcripts (official or unofficial) or acceptance letter into a graduate program. Must submit a letter of desire for this award.

Peggy Steel Advance Practitioner Scholarship

Peggy Steel was a local, long-time resident who greatly appreciated the care she received while she was a patient at Enloe Health. In 2008, she established a scholarship fund designed to enhance Enloe caregivers’ educational opportunities and inspire their advancement for their education and professional pursuits. Today, three separate scholarships (Nursing, Advanced Practice and Enloe Employee) are offered through this scholarship fund.

Award Amount
Three $2,000 scholarship awards.

Eligibility
Must be accepted or currently enrolled in a postgraduate program. Preference will be given for those pursuing education toward becoming a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician Assistant (PA) or Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM).

Ambulatory Clinics

Ambulatory Caregivers Scholarship

Created in 2025, the Ambulatory Caregivers Scholarship was intended to financially support physician specialty clinic staff to further their academic education through enrollment in training, licensing, conferences and continuing education.

Award Amount
One $1,000 scholarship award.

Eligibility
Must be working as staff (excluding registered nurses) in an ambulatory clinic and pursuing continued education related to employment with Enloe Health at a conference, educational institution or online seminar.

Recipient Responsibilities:
Award recipient may be asked to share the knowledge that was gained through their continued education.

Application Requirements
Transcripts (official or unofficial) or acceptance letter, or documentation of the type of licensing, certification, training or conference funds will be used toward.

EMT & Paramedics

Butte County EMS Symposium Scholarship

Butte County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) created this scholarship in 2016 in memory of Dr. Terrance Fraters with funds raised during the Butte County EMS Symposium. It is designed to encourage and enhance the educational advancement of emergency medical technicians and paramedics. Employees and volunteers for Butte County EMS and Westside Ambulance are encouraged to apply.

Award Amount
One $1,000 scholarship award.

Eligibility
Must be current EMT or paramedic employees, or volunteers in good standing at Butte County EMS or Westside Ambulance. The scholarship is to be used to fund continuing education at conferences, educational institutions or online seminars. Applicants must have a current California state paramedic license or EMT certification. Applicants are only eligible to receive one award every five years.

 Nursing

Janis Kay Anderson Graduate Nursing Scholarship

Janis Kay Anderson always dreamed of becoming a nurse. In elementary school, she read all the Sue Barton Student Nurse books. She graduated from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. Her nursing career was from 1975 to 1996 in the ICU/CCU of Chico Community Hospital and Enloe Health, which was named Enloe Medical Center at that time. Janis, a skilled and compassionate clinician, was a charge nurse and eventually became a S.W.A.T. nurse. She was well respected and known for her calm leadership, wide smile, and professional skills. Janis’ love of nursing gently lifted the hearts of her patients and her fellow nurses. Established in Janis’ memory by her husband, Brian Anderson, this scholarship is to financially support nurses who have a similar passion and skills in nursing that Janis displayed.

Award Amount
One $3,500 scholarship award.

Eligibility
Must be accepted or enrolled into the Master of Science in Nursing Program at California State University, Chico, or other eligible nursing educational institution.

Application Requirements
Transcripts (official or unofficial) or acceptance letter into a Master of Science Graduate Nursing program.

Helen Bennor Nursing Scholarship

Helen Bennor was a single mother who attended nursing school later in life. She went back to get her high school diploma and graduated from the Shasta College Nursing program in 1989 with a 4.0 GPA. Helen was a NOC shift nurse in a small-town emergency room for more than 20 years and loved caring for others. Her grandson, Buck August, and his wife, Michelle August, established this scholarship in her honor. They wish to give back to those who share Helen’s passion for nursing.

Award Amount
One $1,000 scholarship award.

Eligibility
Must be accepted or enrolled in a nursing program at Butte College, CSU, Chico, Shasta College or Simpson College.

Betty Dean Nursing Scholarship

The Betty Dean Nursing Scholarship was created in memory of Betty Dean in 2020 by her significant other, Clyde Powers. Betty was passionate about providing great care to patients — and she was instrumental in bringing Planetree to Enloe Health. Education played an important role in Betty’s life. She held a Doctor of Education degree and a Master’s in medical-surgical nursing, in addition to her Bachelor’s degree and RN diploma. Betty was Superintendent-President of Butte College and served in leadership positions in other community colleges throughout California. Simpson College named the Betty M. Dean School of Nursing in her honor in 2016.

Two $2,000 scholarship awards.

Enloe Health Foundation Golf Tournament Nursing Scholarship

The Enloe Health Foundation Golf Tournament Committee created this scholarship in 1999 to encourage and enhance the educational advancement of our nursing staff. Current nursing staff pursuing further education, along with any Enloe employees who are pursuing a degree in nursing, are encouraged to apply.

Award Amounts
Two $2,000 scholarship awards.

Eligibility
Must be accepted or enrolled in a nursing program at an accredited nursing educational institution, or pursuing continued education related to nursing at a conference, educational institution or online seminar.

Herb and Sue Henderson Continuing Nursing Education Scholarship

Herb and Sue Henderson were both critical care nurses before Herb went back to school and became an anesthesiologist and Sue became a nurse practitioner. They both understand the importance of continuing education in order to stay up to date with best practices. Sue especially feels the need to give back to the NTSICU nurses at Enloe Health. She was the nurse manager of this unit for three years and was impressed with the compassion and clinical expertise of this group of professionals.

Award Amount
Two $1,000 scholarships awards.

Eligibility
Must work as a nurse in the NTSICU or ICU/CCU. Preference will be given to nurses employed in the NTSICU firstly and to those from the ICU/CCU secondarily. Applicants must be nurses pursuing continued education at a seminar or conference and be willing to share the knowledge they acquire at the training with their unit.

Recipient Responsibilities
Recipients are required to give one presentation on a nursing best practice topic to the NTSICU staff. This may be done at a staff meeting, Neuro teaching rounds, Trauma teaching rounds or a symposium held at Enloe.

Dr. Billy & Barbara Heron Nursing Scholarship

Created in 2023, this scholarship is funded through the generosity of Dr. Billy and Barbara Heron encouraging educational advancement of our nursing staff. Established in their memory, current nursing staff pursuing further education, along with any Enloe employees who are pursuing a degree in nursing, are encouraged to apply.

Award Amount
Two $2,000 scholarship awards.

Eligibility
Must be accepted or currently enrolled in a nursing program at an accredited nursing educational institution, or pursuing continued education related to nursing at a conference, educational institution or online seminar.

Application Requirements
Transcripts (official or unofficial) or acceptance letter, or documentation of the type of nursing education that funds will be used toward.

Suzette Stueve Memorial Nursing Scholarship

Suzette Stueve was a nurse in the Clinical Informatics department at Enloe Health. Everyone who knew her remembers her incredible smile and quick wit. Suzette began her journey at Iowa Western Community College and graduated with her RN license. She earned her bachelor’s in nursing at a later date. She was such an inspirational person and touched many lives throughout the community and Enloe. In honor and memory of Suzette, a fellow nurse, Diane Woolridge, has created the Suzette Stueve Memorial Nursing Scholarship.

One $1,000 scholarship award.

Eligibility
Must be accepted or enrolled in a nursing program at either CSU, Chico, or Butte College. Applicants must be Enloe employees who have a stated desire to stay local pursuing education for a professional nursing career.

Physical, Occupational & Speech Therapy

Andy Nolan Memorial Physical, Occupational & Speech Therapy Scholarship

Andrew “Andy” Nolan worked at Enloe Health in the inpatient acute care therapy department as a Rehab Aide for 18 years. He was well known throughout the hospital for his incredible work ethic, sense of humor and unwavering kindness.

Award Amount
One $1,000 scholarship award.

Eligibility
Must be accepted or enrolled in an accredited program to earn an advanced degree in either Physical Therapy/PTA, Occupational Therapy/COTA or Speech Therapy.

Application Requirements
Transcripts (official or unofficial) or acceptance letter to a Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Speech Therapy accredited program.

All Enloe Staff

Artisan Fair Scholarship

During Enloe Health’s annual Artisan Fair, donations are raised to benefit this scholarship from vendors and an opportunity drawing. The fund is designed to encourage and enhance the educational opportunities and advancement of our staff.

Award Amount
One $1000 scholarship award.

Eligibility
Must be pursuing continued education related to employment with Enloe Health at a conference, educational institution or online seminar.

Recipient Responsibilities
Recipients may be asked to submit a report and/or speak about their educational experience to appropriate groups.

Application Requirements
Transcripts (official or unofficial) or acceptance letter, or a receipt/invoice and documentation of the type of licensing, training or conference funds will be used toward.

Clinical Educator Scholarship

The Clinical Educator Scholarship is for employees who have a passion for education, such as for continuing education, a degree or license related to employment in the medical field. This scholarship is funded through the generosity of fellow Enloe clinical educators to support excellent patient care at Enloe Health.

Award Amount
One $500 scholarship award.

Eligibility
Must be pursuing continued education related to employment at Enloe Health at a conference, educational institution or online seminar.

Recipient Responsibilities
Award recipient will be asked to present what he or she learned or create a poster on the topic.

Application Requirements
Transcripts (official or unofficial) or acceptance letter, or documentation of the type of licensing, training or conference that funds will be used toward.

Enloe Health Employee Scholarship

Established in October of 2008, the Enloe Health Employee Scholarship is for Enloe employees pursuing continuing education in their chosen field. This scholarship is funded through the generosity of fellow Enloe Health caregivers and community members to support excellent patient care at Enloe Health.

Award Amount
At least four scholarships will be awarded annually up to $1,000 each. Conferences and/or continuing education will be awarded based on financial need.

Eligibility
Must be pursuing continued education related to employment at Enloe Health at a conference, educational institution or online seminar.

Application Requirements
Transcripts (official or unofficial), an acceptance letter, or documentation confirming the licensing, training, or conference that the scholarship will fund.

Enloe Health Foundation Board of Directors Scholarship

The Enloe Foundation Board of Directors created this scholarship in 2018. The volunteer board of community members works to support the patients, programs, equipment and facility needs of Enloe Health through the enhancement of charitable support gathered from the communities it serves.

One $1,000 scholarship award.

Must be pursuing continued education related to employment at Enloe Health at a conference, educational institution or online seminar.

Recipient Responsibilities
Award recipient may be asked to submit a report and/or speak about their educational experience to the Foundation Board of Directors or other appropriate groups.
