Caregiver Fulfills Goal of Becoming a Nurse

The Enloe Health Foundation Golf Tournament is more than a day on the green. It’s a swing for excellence that has raised millions for Enloe Health — and has helped several caregivers fulfill their dreams.

Brandi Arbec-Green, RN, earned a nursing scholarship from the proceeds generated by the 2024 tournament. She is grateful for the honor.

“I am thankful for being chosen as a recipient,” Arbec-Green said. “It is incredible that Enloe provides these opportunities. It shows that they care about employees who want to continue their education.”

Arbec-Green explained that the $2,000 scholarship provided much needed financial relief during her journey to becoming a registered nurse.

“I am a mom of three,” she said. “I was working full time and commuting to school. The scholarship was a huge help, as it offset some of the costs related to my car.”

Arbec-Green has held multiple positions at Enloe over the past 15 years, including roles on the Switchboard team and as a licensed vocational nurse. Her ultimate goal was to become a nurse — a goal inspired by her mom.

“Throughout my childhood, I watched my mother undergo many medical procedures, and I always found health care fascinating,” Arbec-Green said. “But when she was diagnosed with colorectal cancer and I saw the care nurses provided, that’s when I found my passion for nursing.”

Arbec-Green now works as a registered nurse at Enloe in the Surgical Care Unit and said she is grateful to serve the community.

“I am excited to be working as a nurse for Enloe, and I do my job with care and integrity in honor of my mom’s legacy,” she said.

History of Helping

Since 1986, the Enloe Health Foundation Golf Tournament has raised more than $3 million to support programs, equipment and facilities at Enloe Health. To help the organization even more, the Golf Tournament Committee created two nursing scholarships in 1999 to encourage the educational advancement of Enloe’s nursing staff.

These scholarships are available to current nursing staff pursuing further education, and any Enloe employee pursuing a nursing degree is encouraged to apply.

Enloe Health Foundation Director Elizabeth Cadd said it is inspiring to see the impact the scholarships have had.

“I am proud that we can help support the educational pursuits of our caregivers,” she said. “Our Golf sponsors also appreciate knowing that employees are continuing to work toward their educational goals — and working to improve their skills, so they can provide the best care possible to our community.”

Cadd encourages Enloe caregivers to apply when applications open again in the spring. She reinforces the organization’s commitment to relentlessly pursuing excellence.
