Achieving the Proper Poke for Blood Sugar Monitoring
Tips to make blood sugar monitoring easier
Enloe's Buck August, a registered dietician and diabetes educator, discusses some best practices for blood sugar monitoring in this week's Healthy at Home:
"These devices are usually adjustable - this one goes from a one up to a seven. The lower the number, the shallower the poke.
"I recommend to start with a one or two and only go above that if you need to. Some people who have thick skin or who have a lot of calices need a little bit higher number on the dial.
"When you're poking your finger, it's recommended to use the sides of your fingers. You can use both hands as well if you're able to."
