Financial Assistance, Charity Care & Discount Program

Enloe Health provides quality care regardless of patients’ ability to pay. We offer a Financial Assistance Program to help patients who are uninsured or insured and have high out-of-pocket costs.

Enloe’s financial assistance is based on family income and medical needs.

Financial Counselors

Financial counselors are available to help you.

Call Enloe Health Patient Financial Services at 530-332-6350. Counselors may be able to help you get health insurance or financial assistance. They will also work with you to arrange a manageable payment plan.

Physician Charges

The Financial Assistance Program includes Emergency and Specialty Physician charges billed by Enloe.

Uninsured patients and those who are insured and have high out-of-pocket costs — and qualify financially — may receive discounts on physician services.

Enloe offers tiered charity care and discounted payments to patients who financially qualify.

  • Hospital Services: If you are uninsured, or insured with high out-of-pocket costs and your family income is at or below 450% of the Federal Poverty Level, you may qualify for Financial Assistance.
  • Professional Services: If you are uninsured, or insured with high out-of-pocket costs and your family income is at or below 400% of the Federal Poverty Level, you may qualify for Financial Assistance.

If you are applying for Financial Assistance, you will be asked to be see if you qualify for Medi-Cal.

Hospital Charges

Financially qualified families:

  • Families with income less than 150% of the Federal Poverty Level may be eligible for free care.
  • Families with incomes between 151% and 300% of the Federal Poverty Level are eligible for free care after a $100 per visit co-pay.
  • Families with incomes between 301% and 400% of the Federal Poverty Level are eligible for Medicare pricing or the self-pay discount of 55%, whichever is less.
  • Families with incomes between 401% and 450% of the Federal Poverty Level are eligible for 150% of the Medicare pricing or the self-pay discount of 55%, whichever is less. Charges must be greater than $15,000.

Professional Charges

Financially qualified families:

  • Families with incomes less than 400% of the Federal Poverty Level are eligible to pay the applicable Medicare rate for services

FAQs

What if I exceed the income levels but cannot pay my portion of the bill?

Enloe realizes that some families suffer catastrophic accidents or illnesses. If you are insured and need help paying your bill, please call a patient financial counselor. Caregivers can help arrange payments that fit your budget.

Will you help me find health insurance for my future needs?

Yes. Having health insurance protects families from large medical bills. As part of the Financial Assistance process, we will work with you to determine if you are eligible for government-sponsored health plans.

Does it cost anything to participate in the Financial Assistance Program?

There is no charge to apply for the program. Many eligible patients will be asked to pay a co-pay of $100 per visit. Other patients may be asked to pay a discounted amount based on their income.

How do I apply for the Financial Assistance, Charity Care or Discount programs?

To apply, complete the Financial Assistance Application Form. You will be asked to provide documentation of your family’s income. This may include tax returns, pay stubs or other forms of income history. Complete the application and provide any required documents as soon as possible to prevent any delays.

When and how will I be notified if I am eligible?

You will get a letter through MyChart or in the mail. This will let you know if you are eligible for full or partial financial assistance. The letter may say that we need more information from you to complete the process. If it does, please respond as soon as possible.

How long does it take to determine eligibility?

In most cases, you will receive the notification form within 60 days of submitting your application.

How long does the eligibility last?

If you are eligible for our Financial Assistance Program, you are eligible for six months. However, you may apply for multiple medical visits in multiple months on one application.

What if I disagree with the eligibility decision?

If you disagree with the determination made by our staff, you have a right to appeal in writing to:

Uninsured Discount

If you did not apply for or did not qualify for Financial Assistance, you may still get a discount.

  • Hospital Charges: You have access to a 55% uninsured discount as long as your account is in good standing and has not been referred to collections.
  • Professional Charges: You have access to Medicare rates for services as long as your account is in good standing and has not been referred to collections.

    Payment Plans

    Payment arrangements may be approved at the discretion of Enloe.

    • Patients who are financially qualified for charity care or discounted payment may also be eligible for extended payment plans, with 0% interest, for a maximum of 48 months.
    • Patients who do not qualify for charity care or discounted payment, please inquire about possible payment plan options.

    Enloe is committed to providing quality care to patients and has agreed to make its services available to all persons residing or employed in this area. Enloe is prohibited by law from discriminating against Medi-Cal and Medicare patients.     Hospital Bill Complaint Program

    The Hospital Bill Complaint Program is a state program, which reviews hospital decisions about whether you qualify for help paying your hospital bill. If you believe you were wrongly denied financial assistance, you may file a complaint with the Hospital Bill Complaint Program.
