Anthem Medicare Advantage

Enloe Health is attempting to renegotiate our contract with Anthem Medicare Advantage.

On Aug. 1, 2025, Enloe sent a letter to Anthem, the private insurance company, indicating that we will end our agreement.

If we are unable to reach an agreement on appropriate reimbursement rates, Enloe’s Anthem Medicare Advantage contract will end on Jan. 31, 2026.

As a result, anyone on the Anthem Medicare Advantage insurance plan who comes to an Enloe Health facility will be out of network Feb. 1, 2026.

Your health, as well as the health of our communities, remains our top priority. Please read the frequently asked questions below to learn more.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Medicare Advantage plan?

A Medicare Advantage plan is a type of insurance plan offered by private insurance companies. It is different from a traditional Medicare insurance plan, which the federal government operates. Enloe remains a federal Medicare plan provider.

Why is this change taking place?

Currently, Anthem Medicare Advantage pays well below federal Medicare reimbursement rates.

While we would like to accept all insurance plans, as a nonprofit organization, we must accept those that pay fair fees to ensure we can provide high-quality care for years to come.

Although the plan may appear to be a good option for health care coverage due to its lower co-pays, we have found that Anthem Medicare Advantage often denies payment to Enloe Medical Center for the services we provide.

What can I do to remain in network?

Enloe is attempting to renegotiate reimbursement rates with Anthem. Meanwhile, Enloe remains a federal Medicare plan provider.

Members who want to continue their care at Enloe can switch their health care coverage during the federal Medicare open enrollment period, which takes place Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, 2025.

Will Enloe still accept Medicare?

Yes, Enloe still accepts federal Medicare. Anthem Medicare advantage is not the same thing as a traditional Medicare insurance plan, which the federal government operates.

Enloe remains a federal Medicare plan provider. Members who want to continue their care at Enloe can switch their health care coverage during the federal Medicare open enrollment period, which takes place Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, 2025.

Will Enloe still accept other Anthem plans?

Enloe will continue to accept the same Anthem insurance plans except for Anthem Medicare Advantage.

Will people be denied emergency care?

As always, Enloe will continue to provide emergency care to anyone who visits the Enloe Health Emergency Department, regardless of a person’s insurance coverage. The health of our communities will always be our top priority.

How do I change my insurance?

Members who want to continue their care at Enloe can switch their health care coverage to a traditional Medicare plan during the federal Medicare open enrollment period, which takes place Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, 2025.
