Episode 52: Shining the Spotlight on Our Nursing Staff
Jolene visits with Sandra Bernstein, RN, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, about National Nurses Week as well as the Nurses Making a Difference Award.
National Nurses Week celebrates all nurses at Enloe Health, as well as nurses throughout the nation.
Sandra discusses the second annual Nurses Making a Difference Award and offers details on Darrell Daugherty, RN, the 2026 recipient. Darrell received his award May 6 — National Nurses Day — and enjoyed recognition for his remarkable career achievements. He started at Enloe in 1983 and has made a tremendous impact on the organization as well as in the community.

Episode 51: Talking About Residents
Jolene visits with Sean Maiorano, D.O., Chief Medical Officer, about the Family Medical Residency and the Psychiatry Residency programs. Dr. Maiorano talks about the expansion of the Family Medicine Residency Program in just its second year of operation, as it adds six medical residents to the roster of four who joined in 2025.
In addition, four new residents have established the Psychiatry Residency Program as Healthy Rural California — the nonprofit organization that oversees the residency programs — seeks to alleviate the critical shortage of health care providers in Northern California.
Dr. Maiorano joined other Enloe and Healthy Rural California officials in announcing the names of the new residents during Match Day, a March 20 event that was one of many similar introductions around the nation.
The Family Medicine residents include Katherine Arnott, M.D.; Arnie Bengo, M.D.; Brock Clark, D.O.; Sadie Cochenour, D.O.; Crimsun Kessler, M.D.; and Scott Lowe, D.O. Psychiatry residents include Xiaohe “Heidi” Pei, M.D.; Jessica Nwabeke, M.D.; Aqsa Zia, M.D.; and Joele Charlene Guemkam Tueno Scott, D.O. They’ll begin clinicals at Enloe on July 1 following a two-week orientation.

Episode 50: Revenues, Match Day & the Cancer Center
Jolene visits with Mike about rising costs and flat revenue streams facing Enloe Health. Mike talks about Enloe’s need to manage the financial factors within its control, as well as potential reimbursement changes with H.R. 1, which could result in a dramatic drop in Medicare reimbursements. He also provides an update on Oroville Hospital.
Mike and Jolene share a lighter moment as they talk about Match Day, the March 20 event during which Enloe will introduce six new residents. They also share some news regarding the great work at the Enloe Health Gonzales Comprehensive Cancer Center as it approaches completion.

Episode 49: The New Rehabilitation Partnership
Jolene visits with Mike about the partnership Enloe Health forged with Lifepoint Health to manage the Enloe Health Rehabilitation Center. Mike hopes to dispel rumors about employment and operational issues that have resulted from the partnership. He also explains the related issues of admission to the rehabilitation center, billing and payment through Medicare.
