At the end of the program, participants will be able to:
- Describe the types of patients who undergo cardiac surgery.
- Describe the electronic ordering process and complete the pre-op checklist.
- Describe pre-load, afterload, contractility and cardiac output.
- Identify the routine of care for a patient who has had cardiac surgery.
- Describe pharmacological management for patients with varying degrees of heart failure.
- Identify complications commonly experienced by patients who have undergone coronary bypass surgery, or cardiac valve replacement or repair.
- State the location of the emergency sternotomy cart.
- Demonstrate assembly of the rib spreader device.
- Describe the discharge checklist.
