At the end of the program, participants will be able to:
- Better understand the care of birthing people who suffer from diabetes and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) during pregnancy and the increased risk placed upon the newborn.
- Identify risk factors, signs, symptoms, and complications for those affected by diabetes in pregnancy and birth.
- Identify appropriate nursing assessment and interventions to provide specialized care to these high-risk newborns.
- Demonstrate communication and teamwork with clinical team members in a simulated experience.
- Assign and communicate roles in emergency drills and perform these roles to streamline and improve patient care.
- Recognize the effects of bias in this patient population and work to have awareness and provide compassionate care.
