Important Notes

  • Pre-Course Requirements: This class is for caregivers who care for pediatric patients in the Pediatric Unit and have taken PALS.

Description

At the end of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and initiate treatment for high-risk, low-volume pediatric medical emergencies, e.g., sepsis, respiratory distress and anaphylaxis cases.
  • Apply Enloe Health protocols and procedures for pediatric resuscitation, medication administration and escalation of care.
  • Appropriately manage complications of septic shock such as hypoglycemia, poor perfusion or hypothermia.
  • Demonstrate how to use the pediatric code sheets to safely prepare and administer weight-based pediatric medication, including emergency drugs.
  • Increase comfort and proficiency in pediatric emergency simulations to improve real-world performance.
  • Identify when a pediatric patient requires escalation of care and participate in stabilization and preparation for transport to a higher level of care.
  • Engage in post-simulation debriefing to identify strengths, challenges, and areas for improvement in both clinical skills and teamwork.

Continuing Education

Enloe Health is offering 3 Continuing Education contact hours for BRN/RCP.

  • BRN: Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, CEP #000180, for the number of hours indicated.
  • RCP: This course meets the requirements for CE for RCPs in California.
