Enloe is getting real about wellness in its new podcast, Health Matters! In a special two-part series, host Suzie Lawry-Hall sits down with two moms who gave birth during the pandemic. Lauren Scarborough, a mother of two boys, and Jenni Miller-James, a mother of one son, talk about the challenges they faced during their pregnancies, the isolation they felt and their birth experiences. Friday, April 16 | Blue & Green Day

Show your support for organ donation! Wear blue and green on April 16 to raise awareness about this life-saving practice. Every 10 minutes someone is added to the national transplant list, according to Donate Life. Nationwide, 20 people die each day due to lack of available organs, but just one organ donor can save up to eight lives. Want to do more? Register to become a donor, then designate your choice on your driver’s license and tell your family about your wishes.

Thursday, April 29 | Facebook Live: Making Your Final Wishes Known

More than 80% of people say it’s important to put their final wishes in writing. Yet only 23% have actually done it. Luckily, making your wishes known is easier than you think — and it can prevent tough situations down the road. Learn more on Facebook from Rebecca Senoglu, Enloe’s Cancer Support Program Coordinator, and Sandy Koshell-Galka, Enloe’s Hospice Outreach Coordinator. They’ll go over what you should consider, how to talk to your family about your end-of-life wishes, helpful resources and more.

Saturday, May 1, through Friday, May 7 | 15th Annual Growing Healthy Children Walk & Run

Participate from anywhere

Start them young! Good nutrition and exercise are keys to good health. Start these habits at an early age. Participate virtually with your family in this year’s Growing Healthy Children Walk & Run. Walk or run one mile, or challenge yourself with a 5K outing. After you’re done, share a photo of your family’s activity on Facebook with the hashtag #GrowingHealthyChildren2021.

Asthma Education

Back in Action

This free class provides education before your spine surgery and is an opportunity to enhance your hospital experience. Our goal is to help you and your caregiver become active participants in your health care, and aid you in a speedy recovery. We will discuss the surgical process and how to participate in your recovery. Members of your care team will be available to answer your questions. You can also meet other patients who are preparing for the same type of surgery.

Family members or friends are encouraged to attend class with you. These sessions are held the first and third Tuesday of every month from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Enloe Rehabilitation Center Conference Room, 340 W. East Ave., Chico. See the 2020 class schedule. Registration is recommended. Please contact your surgeon's office for registration.

Bariatric Pre-Surgical Education

This class is designed to help patients prepare for their bariatric surgery at Enloe Medical Center. It provides a better idea of what to expect during the hospital visit and how to participate in the recovery process. Spouses, relatives and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend. Bariatric Post-Surgical Education

This 2-hour class is offered starting at about one month after surgery. Participants get an opportunity to review important information and follow-up on special guidelines as their diet and other needs change. The class is held on two Thursdays each month. Bleeding Control Basics 

This class teaches attendees how to stop bleeding after an injury—something that could prove life-saving. Uncontrolled bleeding is the No. 1 cause of preventable death from trauma. Community organizations and groups can request to host a free class. Classes last about 2 hours and require no medical training. Please note that class sizes are limited to 20 people.

Cancer Center - New Patient Orientation

All newly diagnosed cancer patients and their caregivers are encouraged to attend. Hematology patients are also invited. Find out more about how to get the most out of your doctor’s visits, communicating with others about your diagnosis, managing financial and legal issues, dealing with stress related to diagnosis, and resources available to support you during and after treatment. Chemotherapy Education

Being informed can help reduce stress and improve your experience! A brief introduction to chemotherapy and an opportunity to ask questions of an oncology nurse will be offered to those patients scheduled to begin chemotherapy. Caregivers also encouraged to attend. Healthy Steps: The Lebed Method

Gentle therapeutic exercise to help regain range of motion, increase flexibility, reduce swelling from lymphedema, decrease depression, and promote positive self-image and joy! This class can be done sitting or standing — and it’s fun! June 29 is the last date this class will meet in 2020. Please check back for updates. For more details, call  (530) 332-3856.

A Joint Effort

This one-hour class helps patients prepare for total joint replacement surgery. It provides a better idea of what to expect during the hospital visit and how to participate in the recovery process. You'll get an opportunity to ask questions of medical professionals and meet others who will be having the same surgery.

Spouse, relatives or friends are welcome and encouraged to attend class. These gatherings are held weekly on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Fountain Medical Conference Room at the Fountain Medical Conference Room at the Fountain Medical Plaza, 251 Cohasset Road, Chico. Please contact your orthopedic surgeon's office for registration.

Pregnancy & Parenting Classes: Growing Healthy Families

Getting ready for a new baby and parenting are exciting and important times. Enloe Medical Center wants to help you and your family prepare. We offer a range of classes for before and after the baby is born. Visit our Mother & Baby Education Center page for details on these classes.

Weekly Weight-Loss Surgery Informational Seminars

Free seminars led by bariatric surgeons Deron Ludwig, M.D., and Erik Simchuk, M.D., with an intro by Enloe bariatric nurses. These sessions cover topics related to weight-loss surgery, the disease of morbid obesity, health issues associated with obesity and surgical options.
