Across America, hospitals are seeing a surge in COVID-19 cases. Enloe is not immune. Learn about the current situation on Facebook from Marcia Nelson, M.D., Enloe’s Chief Medical Officer. She’ll go over the recent increase in COVID patients, how Enloe is responding, ways you can help and more. Dr. Nelson will also dive into booster shots and why getting your flu vaccine is so important this fall.

Saturday, Oct. 2 | NAMI Mental Health Awareness Week Fundraiser

2-4 p.m. | Masonic Family Center, 1110 W. East Avenue, Chico

The National Alliance on Mental Illness-Butte County will be celebrating "Mental Health Awareness Week," at its fall fundraiser. Zack McDermott - the author of "A Gorilla and the Bird: A Memoir of Madness and a Mother's Love," which is based on a story of his mother's unconditional support while winning his way back to stability - will be the event's guest speaker. Sunday, Oct. 10 | Free COVID Shots

1-2:30 p.m. | St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish, 435 Chestnut St., Chico

Have you been vaccinated against COVID-19? It’s the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones from the virus and its variants. COVID vaccines are safe, effective and free — and they’re available to people ages 12 and up. Join us and be entered into a drawing to win a $50 gift card for groceries. Twenty-five prizes will be awarded. No appointment is necessary.

When you attend, please:

  • Wear a mask. These are required.
  • Wear clothing that allows vaccination to your upper arm.
  • Bring a pen to fill out your consent form.

Saturday, Oct. 16 | Relay for Life

2-8 p.m. | Enloe Comprehensive Breast Care parking lot, 1720 Esplanade, Chico

At the American Cancer Society Relay for Life events, communities across the globe come together to honor cancer survivors, remember lost loved ones and fight back against a disease that has already taken too much. Visit the Survivor Tent (sponsored by Enloe Medical Center), support local teams and attend your favorite Relay activities. To purchase a luminaria in honor of a loved one, visit the Relay for Life of North State website and click the luminaria button.

Thursday, Oct. 21 | Pre-Diabetes Class

6-7:30 p.m. | Attend on Zoom

An estimated 43% of Butte County adults are living with pre-diabetes. Are you? This 90-minute class is designed for all adults, whether you've been diagnosed with pre-diabetes, Type 2 diabetes or just want to live a healthier life.

Friday, Nov. 12 through Sunday, Nov. 14| California CareForce: Free Health Care Services

8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Nov. 12-13 | 8 a.m. to noon, Nov. 14 | Silver Dollar Fairgrounds, 2357 Fair St., Chico

California CareForce is keeping health care accessible with free dental, vision and medical services. Attendees can access free flu and COVID shots, chiropractic care, acupuncture, health education and much more, including:

  • Dental X-rays, cleanings, fillings and extractions
  • Vision exams, eye health checks, and free prescription glasses made on-site
  • General medical exams, blood pressure testing and diabetes screening and counseling

All services are free. You do not need proof of insurance, employment, income, residency, immigration status or an ID to receive them. It’s recommended you bring any current prescription medication. For more information, visit www.californiacareforce.org/clinics.

Asthma Education

Back in Action

This free class provides education before your spine surgery and is an opportunity to enhance your hospital experience. Our goal is to help you and your caregiver become active participants in your health care, and aid you in a speedy recovery. We will discuss the surgical process and how to participate in your recovery. Members of your care team will be available to answer your questions. You can also meet other patients who are preparing for the same type of surgery.

Family members or friends are encouraged to attend class with you. These sessions are held the first and third Tuesday of every month from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Enloe Rehabilitation Center Conference Room, 340 W. East Ave., Chico. See the 2020 class schedule. Registration is recommended. Please contact your surgeon's office for registration.

Bariatric Pre-Surgical Education

This class is designed to help patients prepare for their bariatric surgery at Enloe Medical Center. It provides a better idea of what to expect during the hospital visit and how to participate in the recovery process. Spouses, relatives and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend. Bariatric Post-Surgical Education

This 2-hour class is offered starting at about one month after surgery. Participants get an opportunity to review important information and follow-up on special guidelines as their diet and other needs change. The class is held on two Thursdays each month. Bleeding Control Basics 

This class teaches attendees how to stop bleeding after an injury—something that could prove life-saving. Uncontrolled bleeding is the No. 1 cause of preventable death from trauma. Community organizations and groups can request to host a free class. Classes last about 2 hours and require no medical training. Please note that class sizes are limited to 20 people.

Diabetes Services & Education

Healthy Steps: The Lebed Method

Gentle therapeutic exercise to help regain range of motion, increase flexibility, reduce swelling from lymphedema, decrease depression, and promote positive self-image and joy! This class can be done sitting or standing — and it’s fun! For more details, call  (530) 332-3856.

A Joint Effort

This one-hour class helps patients prepare for total joint replacement surgery. It provides a better idea of what to expect during the hospital visit and how to participate in the recovery process. You'll get an opportunity to ask questions of medical professionals and meet others who will be having the same surgery.

Spouse, relatives or friends are welcome and encouraged to attend class. These gatherings are held weekly on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Fountain Medical Conference Room at the Fountain Medical Conference Room at the Fountain Medical Plaza, 251 Cohasset Road, Chico. Please contact your orthopedic surgeon's office for registration.

Pregnancy & Parenting Classes: Growing Healthy Families

Getting ready for a new baby and parenting are exciting and important times. Enloe Medical Center wants to help you and your family prepare. We offer a range of classes for before and after the baby is born. Visit our Mother & Baby Education Center page for details on these classes.

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Education Program: This free six-week program is designed for those diagnosed or at risk of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and their loved ones. Stress Management

Stress is a major cause of illness and heart disease. This eight-week class helps participants and their families learn to manage the stresses of everyday life. Meets on Wednesdays at 9:45 a.m. No charge for class; $10 materials fee. Offered through Enloe Cardiac Rehabilitation. | (530) 332-6898

Weekly Weight-Loss Surgery Informational Seminars

Free seminars led by bariatric surgeons Deron Ludwig, M.D., and Erik Simchuk, M.D., with an intro by Enloe bariatric nurses. These sessions cover topics related to weight-loss surgery, the disease of morbid obesity, health issues associated with obesity and surgical options.

Seminars are held weekly on Wednesdays from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Meetings take place at the Fountain Medical Conference Room, 251 Cohasset Road in Chico. For more information, call (530) 332-5122.
