Tuesday, April 23 | OLLI Lecture Series: Kidneys and the Aging Process

Thursday, April 25 | Facebook Live: The Importance of Organ Donation

Show your support for organ donation! In California, 22,000 people are on the organ transplant list, and nearly 100 reside in Butte County. Nationwide, 22 people die each day due to lack of available organs, but just one donor can give life to up to eight people and enhance the lives of 75, according to United Network for Organ Sharing.

Learn more when Enloe Medical Center goes live on Facebook in honor of National Donate Life Month. Nurse manager Stacey Passalacqua, whose daughter received a liver, will discuss the impact organ donation has had on her family, and Ashley Harles, RN, will share how Enloe supports this life-saving practice. Colorectal cancer is the third-most common cancer in the U.S. However, it is preventable, treatable and beatable when caught early. Learn the signs of this condition and who is at risk, then hear about one of the newest ways to treat the condition: robotic-assisted surgery. Thursday, May 9 | Erase the Stigma of Mental Illness

6:30 Doors Open | 7 p.m. Program Begins| Chico Elks Lodge, 1705 Manzanita Ave., Chico

Join this community conversation on mental illness in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month. Speakers will discuss their mental wellness after surviving the 2015 Valley Fire, and panelists will share tips for being present in everyday life while coping with mental illness. Several community organizations, including Enloe Behavioral Health, will also be on hand at this free event to offer resources to those in need.

Enloe Blood Drives

Give blood, save a life at an Enloe blood drive. To donate blood, you must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good general health. For your safety and to ensure a positive donation experience, make sure you eat within two hours ahead of your donation. Drink plenty of water that day and 24 to 48 hours beforehand. Feel free to help yourself to something to eat and drink in our refreshment area. Bring your ID, something with your name and one of the following: date of birth, donor ID number or your photo. Back in Action

This free class provides education before your spine surgery and is an opportunity to enhance your hospital experience. Our goal is to help you and your caregiver become active participants in your health care, and aid you in a speedy recovery. We will discuss the surgical process and how to participate in your recovery. Members of your care team will be available to answer your questions. You can also meet other patients who are preparing for the same type of surgery.

Family members or friends are encouraged to attend class with you. These sessions are held the first and third Tuesday of every month from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Enloe Rehabilitation Center Conference Room, 340 W. East Ave., Chico. See the 2018 class schedule. Registration is recommended. Please contact your surgeon's office for registration.

Bariatric Pre-Surgical Education

This class is designed to help patients prepare for their bariatric surgery at Enloe Medical Center. It provides a better idea of what to expect during the hospital visit and how to participate in the recovery process. Spouses, relatives and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend. Bariatric Post-Surgical Education

This 2-hour class is offered starting at about one month after surgery. Participants get an opportunity to review important information and follow-up on special guidelines as their diet and other needs change. The class is held on two Thursdays each month. Bleeding Control Basics 

This class teaches attendees how to stop bleeding after an injury—something that could prove life-saving. Uncontrolled bleeding is the No. 1 cause of preventable death from trauma. Community organizations and groups can request to host a free class. Classes last about 2 hours and require no medical training. Please note that class sizes are limited to 20 people.

Cancer Center - New Patient Orientation

All newly diagnosed cancer patients and their caregivers are encouraged to attend. Hematology patients are also invited. Find out more about how to get the most out of your doctor’s visits, communicating with others about your diagnosis, managing financial and legal issues, dealing with stress related to diagnosis, and resources available to support you during and after treatment. Takes place Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to noon. Register at the reception area of your doctor’s office at the Cancer Center or by calling 332-3900. Location: Cancer Center Library, 265 Cohasset Road, Suite 120, Chico.

Chemotherapy Education

Being informed can help reduce stress and improve your experience! A brief introduction to chemotherapy and an opportunity to ask questions of an oncology nurse will be offered to those patients scheduled to begin chemotherapy. Caregivers also encouraged to attend.Takes place Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Register at the reception area of your doctor’s office at the Cancer Center or by calling 332-3900. Location: Cancer Center Library, 265 Cohasset Road, Suite 120, Chico.

♥ Cardiac Rehabilitation

Educational and exercise-conditioning classes for people with heart problems. The program is tailored to help each person improve their health, increase their strength and endurance, and to feel better. Sessions are directed by a Registered Nurse and an Exercise Physiologist. CPR Classes

Diabetes Services & Education

  • Diabetes Education Services: Through self-management training, participants gain knowledge and self-care skills necessary to manage their condition effectively. Physician-referral required. (530) 332-6840
  • Sweet Success Program: Education and guidelines for women with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes who are pregnant and those with gestational diabetes. (530) 332-6840
  • Pre-Diabetes Class: An estimated 43 percent of Butte County adults are living with pre-diabetes. Are you? This 90-minute class is designed for ALL adults, whether you've been diagnosed with pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes, or not. During the class, you will learn from health care professionals how to take charge of your health to lower your risk for diabetes with exercise and healthy eating. We’ll also discuss goal setting and available resources, as well as what your numbers really mean. $10 per person. This class takes place quarterly, on April 18, July 18, and Oct. 17, at the Enloe Conference Center, 1528 Esplanade, Chico. (530) 332-6840. Sign up for the April Pre-Diabetes Class.

  • Enloe Cardiac Rehabilitation: Education and exercise-conditioning classes for people with heart problems. Healthy Steps: The Lebed Method

Gentle therapeutic exercise to help regain range of motion, increase flexibility, reduce swelling from lymphedema, decrease depression, and promote positive self-image and joy! This class can be done sitting or standing — and it’s fun! It's held Mondays from 6-7 p.m. and Wednesdays from 2:30-3:30 p.m.

This class usually takes place at the Fountain Medical Conference Room at the Fountain Medical Plaza, 251 Cohasset Road in Chico. However, it will meet at the Mother & Baby Education Center, 251 Cohasset Road, Suite 120 in Chico, starting April 8 until further notice. This class is free with a $10 materials fee. Joint Effort

This one-hour class helps patients prepare for total joint replacement surgery. It provides a better idea of what to expect during the hospital visit and how to participate in the recovery process. You'll get an opportunity to ask questions of medical professionals and meet others who will be having the same surgery.

Spouse, relatives or friends are welcome and encouraged to attend class. These gatherings are held weekly on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Fountain Medical Conference Room at the Fountain Medical Conference Room at the Fountain Medical Plaza, 251 Cohasset Road, Chico. Please contact your orthopedic surgeon's office for registration.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Clinic

An eight-week series, offered four times a year, and designed to reduce stress, anxiety, depression, chronic pain and the symptoms of many other stress-related disorders. MBSR is meant to complement not substitute medical treatments you may be receiving. Employee Assistance Program (EAP) benefits and health insurance coverage may apply. See the class schedule on the MBSR website. The cost is $395, which includes registration, textbook, workbook, audio recordings and a follow-up program. Classes are led by Steve Flowers, M.S., MFT. Physicians, nurses, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, and licensed clinical social workers may report 24 hours of Continuing Education for participating in this program (Category 1 Credit toward the California Medical Association in Continuing Medical Education). Pregnancy & Parenting Classes: Growing Healthy Babies and Families

Getting ready for a new baby and parenting are exciting and important times. Enloe Medical Center wants to help you and your family prepare. Weekly Weight-Loss Surgery Informational Seminars

Free seminars led by bariatric surgeons Deron Ludwig, M.D., and Erik Simchuk, M.D., with an intro by Enloe bariatric nurses. These sessions cover topics related to weight-loss surgery, the disease of morbid obesity, health issues associated with obesity and surgical options.

Seminars are held weekly on Wednesdays from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Meetings usually take place at the Fountain Medical Conference Room, 251 Cohasset Road in Chico. However, they will move to the Enloe Rehabilitation Center, 340 W. East Ave. in Chico, until further notice. For more information, call (530) 332-5122.
