Ostomy Explained
An ostomy is a life-saving surgery that changes how the body gets rid of urine or stool.
When an ostomy is needed, a surgeon can create a special opening, or stoma. The stoma is located on the abdomen and is covered with a collection pouch, or bag. The pouch collects the person’s urine and stool since the body is unable to eliminate it in the usual way.
