A healthy lifestyle can help you prevent and manage pain. Keep the following strategies in mind to reduce your risk of developing acute or chronic pain.

  • Exercise regularly. Try to work out for at least 30 minutes five times a week.
  • Eat healthy foods and maintain a healthy weight.
  • Get plenty of sleep.
  • Reduce the amount of stress in your life.
  • Don’t smoke. It’s one of the best things you can do for your health.
  • Don’t drink alcohol in excess.
  • Maintain good posture. Avoid poor body mechanics while you’re at home or at work.
  • Get treated for depression or anxiety. This is very important. Treating or preventing pain can be more difficult if patients suffer from depression or anxiety that is not treated appropriately. Learn more about mental health.
