A lifelong educator, Samia Yaqub, Ph.D., served as the superintendent and president of Butte College from 2015 to 2022. She started her career as an instructional aide, working with adult refugees and immigrants. Samia taught English as a second language, reading and writing for 15 years before moving into college administration.
Since retiring in 2022, she has served as a senior fellow at the Wheelhouse Center for Community College Leadership and Research and volunteered on a number of boards in Chico, including the Boys & Girls Club of the North Valley, Inspire School of Arts and Sciences Foundation, and Chico Noon Rotary.
Samia has a Ph.D. in community college leadership from Oregon State University, a master’s in English from California State University, Chico, and a bachelor’s in English from the University of California, Davis.
