2019 Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA)

What is the CHNA?

Under the Affordable Care Act, U.S. hospitals are required to conduct a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) every three years. The assessment’s main purpose is to:

  • Objectively look at the health needs of a community and the resources available to address those needs
  • Then prioritize the unmet health needs
  • And create an action plan to address them

In Butte County, this has been a collaborative project among Enloe Medical Center, Adventist Health, Orchard Hospital and Butte County Public Health. The action plan will help shape programs over the next three years.

Enloe Medical Center’s Board of Trustees adopted the 2019 CHNA in November 2019. Download the 2019 assessment.

The assessment’s goals were to:

  • Evaluate the health needs Butte County residents face
  • Invite feedback about priorities being addressed and the effectiveness of those efforts
  • Assess other health needs not being addressed
  • Create an action plan supporting community health
  • And inspire increased collaboration among agencies

The 2019 CHNA report includes an overview of the data gathering process, key findings from focused discussion groups and an outline of the resulting action plan. The report also includes a summary of the 2016 CHNA action plan and response.
