Enloe Medical Center has been recognized for the top-rate, quality care we provide. We thank our employees, medical staff, and the many volunteers and community members who have made the following recognitions and designations possible.

 

Trauma Center Achievement

Enloe's Trauma Center, designated as a Level II Trauma Center in California since 1988, is also verified as a Level II Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). This achievement recognizes our dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients. As of March 2018, Enloe was one of two ACS verified Level II Trauma Centers north of the Sacramento area. Hospital Safety

Enloe Medical Center was very favorably ranked in Consumer Reports' hospital safety ratings, published in May 2014. These are based on data on infections, readmission, complications and other adverse events. Search for hospital safety ratings at www.consumerreports.org.

Safer-Surgery Survival Guide

The July 2013 issue of Consumer Reports featured Enloe Medical Center in an article titled, "Your safer-surgery survival guide." The leading national magazine looked at a number of criteria from different types of surgeries, outcomes and more, rating more than 2,400 hospitals nationwide.

Planetree Gold Certification

Enloe Medical Center was awarded the Planetree Gold Certification for Excellence in Patient-Centered Care in 2018. Planetree is an internationally recognized not-for-profit organization that partners with health care providers around the world to advance patient-centered approaches to care.

This is Planetree's highest honor, and Enloe is only the fourth hospital in California and the 20th hospital in the U.S. to be awarded this certification. Learn more about Planetree at Enloe.

Spirit of Planetree Award for Bariatric Surgery

The Bariatric Program at Enloe was awarded The 2016 Spirit of Planetree Award: Patient Centered Excellence and Innovation at the International Planetree Patient Centered Care conference. Here is part of the team accepting the award.

Spirit of Planetree Award for Total Joint Replacement 

Planetree selected Enloe Medical Center’s Total Joint Replacement Program as the first place recipient for its 2014 Spirit of Planetree Program Award. The program was recognized at the international 2014 Planetree Annual Conference in Chicago on Oct. 15. The award honors programs and services that support extraordinary achievement in transforming the health care experience.

Planetree is an internationally recognized not-for-profit organization that partners with health care providers around the globe to advance patient-centered approaches to care. Planetree’s international membership is comprised of more than 500 organizations from eight countries.

Enloe is one of 10 Planetree hospitals in California, and one of only three outside of Southern California. Learn more about Planetree at Enloe.

Patient Experience

The California Hospital Association ranked Enloe Medical Center 12th for patient experience out of 245 California hospitals in 2013. This was based on HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) data, which most hospitals are required to report.

For patient feedback to be counted, patients must give an overall hospital rating of 9 or 10 out of 10. View the questions and compare scores on Hospital Compare.

Community Value Five-Star Award

Enloe Medical Center was recognized with a Community Value Five-Star award from Cleverley + Associate. The health care financial consulting firm benchmarks organizations and provides strategies to enhance performance.

Receiving the Five-Star rating means a hospital scored in the top 20% of hospitals for demonstrating low costs, reinvesting in the hospital and providing high-quality care. Enloe is one of only 40 hospitals in California to receive the award for 2012 and one of two in Butte County. Enloe was also awarded in 2010.

California Department of Public Health

Enloe is licensed by the State of California to operate as an acute care hospital.

Joint Commission Accredited

Enloe Medical Center, the Enloe Stroke Program, Enloe HomeCare, and Enloe's Pathology and Clinical Laboratory are Joint Commission-Accredited Programs. Learn more about quality and safety at Enloe.

Committed to Organ Donation

In 2018, Enloe Medical Center was recognized by Donor Network West with Platinum Recognition for promoting enrollment in state organ donor registries as part of the National Hospital Organ Donation campaign, according to the U.S. Department of Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA).

The nationwide campaign has added more than 400,000 donor enrollments to state registries nationwide since 2011. The medical center earned points for each activity implemented between October 2017 and April 2018 to encourage donations, which included having a Donor Council Committee, honoring donors by flying the Donate Life Flag, participating in National Blue and Green Day in April, and providing education about donation to the community.

In 2015, Enloe Medical Center was recognized by Donor Network West with a Gold Medal for very engaged participation in Phase IV of the HRSA Hospital Campaign. Launched in August 2014, this Workplace Partnership for Life initiative connects organ, eye and tissue donation organizations with hospitals to create engaging donation activities within the hospital’s facilities. Thirty of the 175 hospitals in Donor Network West’s service area were very engaged in the campaign, and Enloe was among the top 13.

Additionally, Enloe Medical Center received the HRSA Medal of Honor from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in 2010 for the fifth consecutive year. In 2009, Enloe was presented with two organ donation medals of honor. Blue Distinction Centers

Bariatric Program

Enloe Medical Center is designated as a Blue Distinction Center Plus for Bariatric Surgery.* This three-year designation from Anthem Blue Cross was granted in 2014.

Enloe also received the Blue Distinction Center designation for bariatric surgery in 2009 and 2007. Blue Distinction is given to medical facilities that have demonstrated expertise in delivering quality health care and is based on rigorous, evidence-based criteria.

Spine Surgery

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of California have named Enloe Medical Center as a Blue Distinction Center+ in Spine Surgery.The Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care® program is a national designation awarded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies to medical facilities that have demonstrated expertise in delivering quality specialty care.

The criteria for designation recently expanded to include more robust quality measures focused on improved patient health and safety, as well as new cost-efficiency measures. 

Primary Stroke Center

After undergoing an on-site evaluation and demonstrating compliance with nationally developed standards for stroke care, Enloe Medical Center earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for advanced certification as a Primary Stroke Center in 2011, and was re-certified in 2013. Enloe was the first hospital in Butte County to receive this accreditation.

Recognition for Services

Bariatric Surgery

Enloe Medical Center is designated as a MBSAQIP Accredited – Comprehensive Center, with bariatric surgical director Deron Ludwig, M.D., from the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).

The ASMBS has awarded Enloe with this three-year designation four times: in 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016. Learn more about the Enloe Bariatric Program.

Diabetes Education

Enloe’s Diabetes Services is accredited by the American Association of Diabetes Educators. This four-year accreditation, awarded in 2014, provides residents of Northern California with increased access to critical diabetes education services.

FlightCare

Enloe FlightCare has been fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Air Medical Transport since 2008. CAMTS is an organization that is dedicated to improving the quality and safety of medical transport services.

The accreditation recognized that our medical transport rotor-wing service provides "highly skilled flight nurse/paramedic teams to care for adult and pediatric patients."

Designated STEMI Receiving Center

Enloe Medical Center has been designated as a STEMI Receiving Center by the Sierra-Sacramento Valley EMS Agency since 2010.

A designated STEMI Receiving Center has been deemed particularly qualified to treat STEMI (ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction) heart attacks, a particular kind of attack, considered to be the most severe and caused by a clot in one or more of the coronary arteries. Intensive Care/Cardiac Care Unit

The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), Aliso Viejo, Calif., conferred a silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence on the Intensive Care Unit/Cardiac Care Unit (ICU/CCU) at Enloe Medical Center in 2014.

The award is a significant milestone on the path to exceptional patient care and healthy work environments recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards. Learn more about this recognition.

Enloe's Nettleton Mother & Baby Care Center

Enloe Medical Center is designated as a Baby-Friendly birth facility. This international award recognizes birth facilities that offer breastfeeding mothers the information, confidence, and skills needed to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies.

We first received this designation in 2011, making Enloe Medical Center the first hospital between Butte County and Oregon to achieve this status. We recently received another five-year designation, making us one of only 417 U.S. hospitals to hold this designation. This global initiative was launched by the World Health Organization and UNICEF in 1991.

Smart Care California announced its third-annual C-section honor roll in October 2018. Enloe was among the 122 hospitals of 240 with maternity services that met or surpassed a federal target aimed at reducing C-sections in first-time mothers with low-risk pregnancies. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services adopted the target in response to a rapid rise in medically unnecessary C-sections nationwide to reduce the risk of complications for mothers and babies. Enloe made the honor roll in two consecutive years.

California and the California Public Employees Retirement System gave out the accolade in 2016. To be recognized, hospitals must have achieved a C-section rate of 23.9% or lower for low-risk, first-birth deliveries. 

Physical Therapy - Continuing Competency Approval Agency

The Physical Therapy Board of California (PTBC) has made Enloe Medical Center a Continuing Competency Approval Agency, meaning that we are an approved provider of continuing competency courses. Physical therapists must take 30 hours of approved courses every two years to maintain their license. By offering the classes here in Chico, Enloe provides a value to these professionals.

Stroke Program

Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for Certification as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center

Enloe Medical Center earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for certification as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center in 2013 and 2011 after undergoing a rigorous on-site evaluation and demonstrating compliance with nationally developed standards for stroke care.

Get With The Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award

This year, Enloe Medical Center received the 2018 American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award.

Hospitals receiving Get With The Guidelines Gold Plus Achievement Award have reached an aggressive goal of treating patients with 85% or higher compliance to core-standard levels of care as outlined by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for two consecutive calendar years. In addition, those hospitals have demonstrated 75% compliance to four out of 10 heart failure quality measures or seven out of 10 stroke quality measures during the 12-month period.

Additionally, Enloe Medical Center has been recognized as a 2018 recipient of the association’s Target: Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll, for improving stroke care. We have been on this honor roll since 2016. Enloe also received the following Get With The Guidelines Achievement Awards: Gold Plus (2009-2017), Gold (2008), Silver (2007), and Bronze (2006). Transfusion Services

Enloe's Transfusion Service has been accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) since 1981. AABB-accredited facilities are responsible for collecting almost all of the U.S. blood supply and transfusing more than 80%. The AABB accreditation process takes place every two years.

The Accreditation Program supports high standards for medical, technical and administrative performance, scientific investigation, clinical application, and education. It assesses quality systems and operational areas. Accreditation is granted for collection, processing, testing, distribution, and administration of blood and blood components, and perioperative activities.
