This monthly newsletter is part of Enloe Medical Center’s commitment to keep you informed about significant construction activity for our expansion project. Updates for the month include:
Happy New Year!
Surgery Center exterior finishes in the works – Construction crews early this year will work on the Surgery Center’s exterior finish system, known as EFIS (pronounced “EFIS”), or commercial stucco. This is the same finish system used on the new patient tower. EFIS is comprised of seven layers, including gold-colored dens glass for weather proofing and blue mesh to protect from cracking. Scaffolding remains in place to allow for this work to take place. The façade is anticipated to be completed by February. Interior fireproofing will then occur. Roofing and exterior framing, discussed in past issues, are now complete.
And now for interiors – We will soon share a preview of the interior finishes planned for the new patient tower. Look for an update soon on when we will post online the color pallets, including paint, flooring, cubicle curtains, cabinetry color, fabrics and countertops. Each floor and main lobby will have its own color pallet. Employees will have an opportunity to vote on accent colors. Our color pallets are earth tones based on colors commonly seen around Chico.
Update on patient tower windows – The windows for the new patient tower were originally expected to be put in place starting in December 2009. This process has been set aside, however, as we await final approval from OSHPD (Office of Statewide Health and Planning Development). We expect to be able to begin installation in the coming months.
Seismic upgrades continue in 1967 building – Construction crews are now seismically upgrading a sheer wall near the Radiology department. The wall, located in a portion of the Esplanade campus built in 1967, is one of four walls to be updated over the next two years. This is part of our continuing multiphase project (including the Century Project) to prepare for California’s seismic law. This law requires hospitals to rebuild or retrofit to meet the strict seismic standards by 2013. TheLaboratory was already updated as part of this project. We also expect to move the Cardiology Department from its temporary home location to its permanent site, and in February to move the Ultrasound Department to a temporary site to make way for a new Open Magnetic Resonance Imaging system. These seismic upgrades on the 1967 building will continue throughout the year.
