Procedures & Treatments: Total Joint Replacement Program
OrthopedicSurgery, Non-surgical Treatments
& the "Joint Effort" Class
Many people are seeking an active life free from joint pain. Medications, braces, orthotics and exercise, or a combination of these, can sometimes be enough to manage the pain. However when pain becomes severe, persistent and progressive, and begins to limit your lifestyle, it’s time to check in with a doctor and ask about non-surgical as well as surgical options that may provide relief.
Enloe's Total Joint Replacement Program offers the latest surgical techniques, providing tangible benefits to those who suffer from severe joint pain or dysfunction. For example, less-invasive surgical techniques enable a shorter hospital stay and a faster recovery and rehabilitation.
Minimally Invasive Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery
This technique for hip replacement surgery and knee replacement surgery is used with a smaller surgical incision, which usually avoids the need to cut or detach muscles or tendons.
Anterior Approach to Hip Replacement Surgery
This approach to hip replacement surgery accesses the hip joint by entering through the front of the hip and going between the muscles. This is a less invasive procedure.
Patient-specific Total Knee Replacement Surgery
This total knee replacement surgery technique uses MRI technology and pre-operative planning tools to create customized cuttings guides. The guides are tailored to each patient’s unique anatomy before surgery takes place.
Patient-specific Partial Knee Replacement Surgery
This technique uses MRI technology and pre-operative planning tools to create customized cuttings guides for partial knee replacement procedure. Guides are tailored to each patient’s unique anatomy.
Total Shoulder Replacement Surgery
Total shoulder replacement surgery replaces the damaged cartilage. The shoulder is a ball-and-socket joint, much like the hip joint. This surgery involves replacing the arthritic humeral head with an implant ball and resurfacing the glenoid (socket) with an implant socket.
Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement Surgery
Reverse total shoulder replacement surgery replaces the damaged bone and cartilage. It involves replacing the arthritic humeral head (ball) with a socket implant and resurfacing the glenoid (socket) with a ball implant. The surgery works better for people with a non-functioning rotator cuff.
Enloe's Total Joint Replacement Program also offers non-surgical treatments.
Steroids decrease inflammation. They are often injected directly into joints to treat conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout or other inflammatory diseases.
Hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in the synovial (joint) fluid, is injected into the joint. This acts as a lubricant to enable bones to move smoothly over each other and as a shock absorber for joint loads.

A Joint Effort: A Class to Prepare for Your Orthopedic Surgery
This class helps patients prepare for total joint replacement surgery. Learn what to expect during the hospital visit and how to participate in the recovery process. Ask questions of medical professionals and meet others who will be having the same surgery. Spouses, relatives or friends are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Blue Distinction Center+ Designation
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of California have named Enloe Medical Center as a Blue Distinction Center+ in knee and Hip Replacement. The Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care® program is a national designation awarded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies to medical facilities that have demonstrated expertise in delivering quality specialty care. The criteria for designation recently expanded to include more robust quality measures focused on improved patient health and safety, as well as new cost-efficiency measures.
*Blue Distinction® Centers met overall quality measures for patient safety and outcomes, developed with input from the medical community. Blue Distinction® Centers+ also met cost measures that address consumers’ need for affordable healthcare. Individual outcomes may vary. National criteria is displayed on www.bcbs.com. A Local Blue Plan may require additional criteria for facilities located in its own service area. To find out which services and providers (including hospital based physicians) are covered under your policy, or to learn about Local Blue Plan Criteria, contact your Local Blue Plan; and contact your provider before making an appointment to verify its current Network and Blue Distinction Centers status. Each hospital’s Cost Index is calculated separately, based on data from its Local Blue Plan. Hospitals in portions of CA, ID, NY, PA, and WA may lie in areas served by two Local Blue Plans, resulting in two Cost Index figures; and their own Local Blue Plans decide whether all hospitals in these areas must meet Blue Distinction Centers+ national criteria for one or both Cost Index figures. Neither Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association nor any Blue Plans are responsible for damages, losses, or non-covered charges resulting from Blue Distinction or other provider finder information or care received from Blue Distinction or other providers. To find out more, contact your Local Blue Plan.
