CHICO, Calif., April 19, 2017 – Nearly 400 people are registered to participate in the third-annual Heart & Sole: Run for Wellness event for the whole family, April 22 at the One Mile Recreation Area in Bidwell Park, and there is still time to sign up. Truly an event for all ages and abilities, registered participants range from under 6 years old to well into their 80s. And, in recognition of proceeds benefiting Enloe’s future Cardiovascular Care Center, the largest registered team is comprised of 55 individuals representing Enloe’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.
“This is one of the most rewarding events of the year because it brings together so many different people, all having fun, doing something healthy for themselves,” said Deanna Reed, Enloe’s Community Outreach Coordinator. “Seeing the joy on their faces as they cross the finish line is what Heart & Sole is all about.”
Heart & Sole includes a fun Fuego warmup led by Chico State’s WREC Program, timed 1-mile and 5k courses with entertainment, and healthy snacks and activities to follow. Cheerleaders from local junior high schools will root for participants along both courses, and the Rosedale Elementary School band will play music on the 5k course. After the run, Heart & Sole participants will be able to meet “Enloe” the dog and members of Enloe’s FlightCare crew, enjoy refreshments and chair massage, learn stress management breathing techniques, get blood pressure screenings, receive sports drink nutrition education, and learn tips for stretching and using a foam roller.
“While the Heart & Sole: Run for Wellness is a fundraiser to help support Enloe’s future Cardiovascular Care Center, it’s also about providing an opportunity for participants to learn new tips for living a heart healthy lifestyle,” said Jolene Francis, Enloe’s Director of Advancement and Communications.
General registration costs $25; or $15 for seniors (65+), $10 for kids (7-12), and no charge for kids 6 and under. Registration includes a short-sleeve technical T-shirt for adults and seniors, while supplies last, and a special gift for kids. T-shirts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis; quantities and sizes are limited.
Online registration is available through 11:59 p.m. today, at www.enloe.org/events. Late registration will be available at the packet pickup on April 21 at Fleet Feet Sports in downtown Chico, 241 Main St., from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Same-day registration starts at 7 a.m. at the event, however, online registration is encouraged.
The 5k run will begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 1-mile run/walk at 8:45 a.m. Participants are encouraged to attend the 8 a.m. welcome and 8:15 a.m. Fuego warmup. Though this is a timed race, participants are encouraged to go at their own pace. Strollers will be allowed along both courses to encourage families with young children to participate; however, pets are not allowed.
