Enloe Medical Center and SEIU-UHW reach agreement
WHAT: The first collective bargaining agreement for service workers at Enloe Medical Center was ratified on Dec. 9 2008. This contract, which governs the terms and working conditions of employees in the Service Unit, will expire on June 30, 2012.
The contract is an agreement between Enloe Medical Center and Service Employees International Union – United Healthcare Workers West (SEIU-UHW). Ratification of the contract occurred when the service workers voted to approve it in an SEIU-UHW election on Dec. 9, 2008.
Deborah Yancer, Enloe Medical Center’s Chief Executive Officer states: “Enloe is pleased to move forward in a new relationship with our employees and their union. This represents an important milestone in the life of our organization. We can now look toward a future that will include collaboration between our employees and the union they chose to represent them.”
WHO: There are 659 service employees at Enloe who are represented by SEIU-UHW. They include clerks, couriers, drivers, nursing aides, technicians, transcriptionists, schedulers and unit secretaries and many others. Nurses at Enloe are not part of SEIU-UHW.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Negotiations for the collective bargaining agreement between Enloe Medical Center and the Service Employees International Union – United Healthcare Workers West (SEIU-UHW) started on May 22, 2007 and were completed with the final vote for a four-year contract on Dec. 9, 2008. Enloe representatives for bargaining were the Vice President of Human Resources, Enloe’s labor attorney and four Enloe directors.
