Local cardiologist accepts position with the American College of Cardiology

CHICO, Calif., Feb. 25, 2008 – Janet Wright, MD, FACC (Fellow of the American College of Cardiology), a local cardiologist for the past 23 years, has recently accepted a position as Vice President for Science and Quality with the American College of Cardiology in Washington, D.C. Dr. Wright will leave Chico at the end of February and anticipates beginning work in her new position in Spring 2008.

For the past 20 years, Dr. Wright has been active with the American College of Cardiology, an organization of 34,000 cardiologists, nurses, and pharmacists. The department she will work for focuses on improving the quality of cardiovascular care and develops guidelines, standards and performance measures for clinicians. Her most recent volunteer work for the American College of Cardiology was to chair the organization’s Presidential Task Force on Performance Assessment, Recognition, Reinforcement, Reward and Reporting, and to serve on the Digital Products Management Board. Dr. Wright was appointed to the ACC Board of Trustees in 2005 and has been a member or co-chair of the Annual Medical Directors’ Institute since 2003.

In Chico, Dr. Wright has been a partner at Northstate Cardiology Consultants and has treated patients at Enloe Medical Center for 23 years. At Enloe, she has worked closely with Enloe’s Heart Program, in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Cardiology Department and with Enloe’s Cardiac Rehabilitation.

“Enloe is my medical home and I will miss my ‘family’ members,” said Dr. Wright. “I’ve had the opportunity here to work on quality improvement with my colleagues and to learn how knowledge, focus, intention and resources can raise the level of care. I trust that these lessons can be applied on another scale to help address the existing gaps in care. I am grateful to Enloe staff, my peers and our patients for preparing me for this new role in the ‘move to improve.’”

Dr. Wright will continue to see scheduled patients through the end of February, but is no longer taking new patients. Her current patients can contact her office with questions about continued care.

About the Enloe Heart Program: Enloe’s Heart Program provides the North Valley with comprehensive cardiac care, offering a comprehensive approach to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease. The Heart Program is integrated with Enloe’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Exercise and Education Program to provide the full spectrum of care and support to our heart patients.
