Wound/Ostomy Services
Enloe Medical Center's Wound/Ostomy Services provides comprehensive, specialized care and education to patients with wound, ostomy and incontinence-related needs. The services require an order from the patient's physician. Consultation and evaluation services are provided in the acute care hospital, Enloe Rehabilitation Center and home health setting, or in one of the outpatient clinics.
Enloe's Wound Center
Enloe provides a full range of wound services, directed by a physician and managed by a board-certified wound nurse. Our professional staff is trained to provide a specialized, comprehensive course of therapy to assist in healing problem wounds. At our center, we use up-to-date approaches to wound healing and remain current in new scientific advances in wound care. We treat burns, grafts, flaps, skin tears and excoriated skin, among other wounds. Wounds can be managed with:
- Hydrotherapy and Whirlpool therapy
- Wound debridement
- Advanced wound dressings
- Wound irrigation through pulse lavage
- Compression therapy
- Vacuum-assisted closure therapy
- Hyperbaric therapy
- Other special care upon a physician's request
A Team of Wound Care Specialists
The Enloe Medical Center Wound Center is designed to complement your physician's services and is committed to the treatment of difficult, non-healing wounds. The center is made up of a team of professionals:
- Physicians with advanced training in wound management
- Nursing staff trained in the care of chronic wounds
- Technicians who perform non-invasive studies and various therapies
- Experienced staff to assist with appointments, medical records and health insurance processing
Your Wound Treatment Program
After providing a thorough diagnostic examination to identify your wound and the underlying problem causing the wound, our program will tailor a program to meet your needs. This will be initiated based on the most effective treatment options. Once a treatment plan has been initiated, you will visit the Wound Center on a regular basis for wound care. You will be instructed on how to administer your own wound care at home between visits, as well as to protect your wound from further complications. You are the most important part of your healing process.
Ostomy Services
Enloe also offers physician-directed ostomy care, with each case managed by a board-certified ostomy nurse. Services include:
- Pre-operative ostomy site marking and education
- Ostomy self-care education
- Peristomal skin evaluation and care
- Stomal care, including problem solving for leakage, rash, odor, ulcerations; and stomal equipment fitting and problem solving
- Tube management: Dressing changes, tube changes, sizing and fitting and self-care education. Types of tubes: MIC, nephrostomy, PEG, Mic-Key and empyema tubes
- Educational tools, such as videos and reading materials
OSTOMY Resource
Greater Chico Ostomy Association: This nonprofit support and outreach group offers monthly group meetings at Enloe Medical Center's Conference Center. The group provides support for ileostomates, colostomates, urostomates, support persons and family. It serves Butte County and the surrounding counties. Learn more.
