Enloe Heart Program
Enloe Medical Center offers a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart disease. We have been recognized as a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care.
The Enloe Heart Program enables patients to receive any or all of the following comprehensive services, depending on their individual situations and needs.
STEMI intake
When paramedics inform Enloe of a potential ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI), a life-threatening heart attack, a team of physicians, nurses and technicians prepare a treatment plan before the patient’s arrival to the hospital. Typically this allows the patient to bypass the Emergency Department and go directly to the Catheterization Lab, saving precious time and heart muscle. Learn more about Enloe's STEMI designation.
Cardiac Diagnostics
Not every Heart Program patient arrives via ambulance with a heart attack. Often patients experience heart-related symptoms and may have a family history of heart disease. To help determine the cause of symptoms, the Cardiac Diagnostics department can provide a variety of tests such as echocardiography, ECG (electrocardiogram), nuclear perfusion scans and ambulatory electrocardiographic monitoring. Learn more about Enloe's Cardiac Diagnostics Services.
Cath Lab
In Enloe’s technologically advanced Cardiac Catheterization Lab, board-certified cardiologists collaborate with an integrated team to perform a range of procedures including coronary angiograms; coronary stenting and angioplasty, and EPS (Electrophysiology Services). Learn more about the Enloe Cardiac Catheterization Lab.
Surgery
Enloe offers a wide spectrum of surgical procedures thanks to the experienced cardiothoracic surgeons on the Medical Staff. Operations include coronary bypass (both traditional and off-pump), endoscopic vein/artery removal, TMR (transmyocardial laser revascularization) and valve repair/replacement. Dedicated Care for Heart Patients
The Enloe Heart Team's approach to meeting the needs of patients and their families involves a coordinated health care team of highly skilled caregivers and support staff. Our nursing staff is highly trained in providing care and education to people with heart disease. Nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, dieticians, social workers and case managers work together with the patient and family to provide the care and information they need before, during and after the heart procedure.
Getting back home: Many patients who have had a cardiac catheterization procedure are outpatients and will go home later that same day. Patients having an interventional procedure will spend 24 to 48 hours on our cardiac unit. Patients who have undergone cardiac surgery will spend a recovery period of several days in the ICU/CCU (Intensive Care Unit/Coronary Care Unit), which provides cardiac critical care, and then go to our Definitive Care Unit (DCU) for an intermediate level of nursing care. The majority of our surgery patients are discharged from the hospital four days after their cardiac surgery.
Cardiac Rehabilitation
Since 1979, Enloe’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program has offered a variety of exercise and education programs to help people with heart disease recover and lead healthier lives. Learn more about Enloe's Cardiac Rehabilitation program.
