Touch a Life, Become An Enloe Volunteer
Daily, throughout the medical center, caring people reach out and touch the lives of their fellow community members in small, simple, and yet poignant ways. From delivering flowers to offering a comforting hug, volunteers support patients, visitors, and staff. And they do it for free…
The mission of the Enloe Volunteers is to enhance patient care and visitor satisfaction by providing community members with meaningful service opportunities that support hospital programs, projects and services.
Why volunteer?
People choose to volunteer at Enloe for many reasons, such as social interaction, skill development, giving back to the community, getting to know Enloe and a positive use of time. But the most common reason is simply the desire to help one’s fellow neighbor. Here’s what Enloe Volunteers are saying:
“I feel useful. A patient was bored and had read all her books and magazines. She was confined to a bed. After finding out her interests, I went and selected some magazines for her to choose from. She was really pleased and grateful.”
"I feel needed by patients and staff. I sat with a mother whose little 4-month old baby had to be on oxygen. His little hand squeezed my finger. It really touched my heart when he gave me a big smile.”
“I feel appreciated. I helped ease a patient’s pain one day when I held her hand while she was being treated. At her request I stayed by her side until she felt better..”

How many hours do I need to commit?
Volunteering is a choice of how to use your leisure time – and we appreciate that. The majority of our volunteer opportunities are three- to four-hour shifts on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule. This is helpful to our nursing and administrative staff with whom volunteers work.
Several more flexible opportunities are also available. Some, like our STAR team (Special Task Assignment Resource), are an on-call pool of volunteers for special events. Contact the Volunteer Services office to find out more about different types of flexible placements.
How do I get started?
