TELECARE is a free service provided by the Enloe Volunteers offered to people ages 60 and over who live alone in the Enloe Medical Center service area of Butte County and would feel reassured by a friendly phone call to check in.  A wellness check phone call will be made to your home between 7:00am and 9:00am on weekdays, and after 10:00am on weekends.

Here’s how it works:

  1. A TELECARE caller will phone every day to check on your well-being.
  2. If you do not answer, another call is made approximately ten minutes later.
  3. If you still do not answer, a call is then placed to your listed responders.
  4. In cases where the responders are unable to be reached, a call is placed to the Chico Police Department or Butte County Sheriff’s Department.

If you know you are not going to be home during the regularly scheduled calling times:

  1. Notify the TELECARE caller the day, or even weeks, before and they will note this in your file.

If you are unable to notify TELECARE ahead of time, you may also:

  1. Call Volunteer Services at (530) 332-4575 Monday-Friday between 8:30am and 5:00pm.
  2. Let your listed responders know.

TELECARE is one of the many services provided by Enloe Medical Center Volunteers.  TELECARE is staffed daily by volunteers with support from Volunteer Services staff.  TELECARE is free and available to anyone living in the Enloe Medical Center service area of Butte County.   If you know anyone who may benefit from this free service, or if you would like more information, please call Volunteer Services office at (530) 332-4575 or download and submit a PDF version of the Telecare Client Application.

"God bless the callers from Enloe’s Telecare program, that's all I have to say."

Late one evening, a community member who lives alone fell in her home and couldn't get up. The 85-year-old was able to scoot herself to a phone, but she's legally blind and couldn't see to dial 911. Unable to get help, she spent the night on the floor. She knew, however, that in the morning help would come. Sure enough, at 7:30 a.m. sharp, the daily check-in call came from her TELE-CARE representative and she quickly received medical attention.

"A lot more people need this kind of help. I don't want to think what I would have done without it."
