Thursday, Feb. 4 | Infertility Support Group (Topic: Acupuncture Benefits with Infertility)

6 p.m. to 7 p.m. | Enloe Conference Center, 1528 Esplanade, Chico 

The owner of Chico Community Acupuncture, Olivia Peters-Lozaro, L.Ac, will be our guest speaker at this second meeting of the Infertility Support Group. This confidential group offers comfort, understanding, and support regarding infertility and is designed to help create a safe sense of community. It meets on the first Thursday of every month from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Enloe Conference Center, 1528 Esplanade, Chico. Join cardiovascular disease specialist Christopher Massa, MD, for the “Walk with a Doc” of the new year. Enter on Springfield Drive near DeVon's Jewelers. Free for all ages and abilities! Monday, February 8 | Healthy Hearts Support Group (Topic: Hands-Only CPR & How to Use an AED)

February is Heart Month! Our special guest will be Cindy Weaver, RN, American Heart Training Center Coordinator for Enloe. Cindy will provide information about Hands-Only CPR and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Please bring a smile and join us for this informative meeting. Healthy Hearts provides a support group and forum for patients and their families and meets on the second Monday of each month from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Enloe Outpatient Center, Building C, 888 Lakeside Village Commons, Classroom A, in Chico. 

Tuesday, February 9 | Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Winter Series

MBSR can help you learn how to relate to whatever is happening in your life and take charge of your life in a practical way. Wednesday, February 10 | Stroke Support Group (Topic: Let’s Talk About Atrial Fibrillation)

Thursday, February 18 | Cancer Discussion Group - Topic: Lymphedema:  Fact and Fiction

4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. | Enloe Conference Center, 1528 Esplanade, Chico 

Lymphedema Specialist Anne Anderson will provide background information and help sort out commonly held beliefs about lymphedema, some of which are factual, others total fiction. Bring your questions. The Cancer Discussion Group is for patients and their caregivers at any stage of the cancer journey. Gain helpful information on a cancer wellness topic, then talk in small groups with other survivors in an atmosphere of encouragement and hope. It meets on the third Thursday of every month. Please check back for a topic for this monthly support group meeting. Healthy Hearts provides a support group and forum for patients and their families and meets on the second Monday of each month.

Patients and caregivers will share tips, discuss challenges and gain new tools for understanding how to be the support person for someone living with cancer. The Cancer Discussion Group is for patients and their caregivers at any stage of the cancer journey. This month Plastic Surgeon Emily Hartmann will lead our walk. She will share some tips to help inspire a healthier you this year. This two-hour class is designed for ALL adults, whether you have pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes risk factors or are simply interested in healthier living. Nearly a third of adults living with diabetes don’t even know they have it. During the class, participants will learn from health care professionals how to take charge of their health and lower their risk for diabetes with exercise and healthy eating. We’ll also discuss goal setting and available resources, as well as what your numbers really mean. $10 per person. Register and pay online today to reserve your space.

Sunday, May 1 | Celebration of Life 5k Walk/Run

9 a.m. | Bidwell Park, One-Mile Picnic Area (Across from softball field)

The Celebration of Life 5k is an event benfiting and raising awareness for Hospice and Palliative Care in Butte County. This event includes "bling and swag" for everyone plus snacks and a good time at the finish line! Register before April 15 to guarantee your t-shirt, race medallion and Chico Bag. This event benefits Enloe Hospice, Butte Home Health & Hospice, Paradise Hospice (Feather River Hospital) and Enloe Supportive & Palliative Care. Learn more and register online.

Saturday, May 21 | 9RUN1 Challenge 5k Obstacle Course

9 a.m. | Chico Mall

Coinciding with National EMS week, the 9RUN1 takes a twist on the traditional 5k run/walk. The 3.1-mile race will include 10 to 14 obstacles, such as a barb-wire crawl, a rope swing, dirt tunnels and more. Each obstacle will be custom-designed and created with safety and fun as the main priorities. The event, suitable for participants of all ages and ability levels, will be timed for those who wish to compete and will have multiple start times for those who wish to participate just for fun. This event is organized by P.E.X. Productions, made up of three local paramedics who often participate in races and mud runs and wanted to bring a similar event to Chico. The event will benefit local public safety, supporting local fire, police, EMS and hospitals.

Classes

Asthma Education

Back in Action

This free class provides education before your spine surgery and is an opportunity to enhance your hospital experience. Our goal is to help you and your caregiver become active participants in your own health care, and aid you in a speedy recovery. We will discuss the surgical process and how to participate in your own recovery. Members of your care team will be available to answer your questions. Meet other patients who are preparing for the same type of surgery. Family members or friends are encouraged to attend class with you. Held monthly on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Enloe Rehabilitation Center Conference Room, 340 W. East Ave., Chico. See the 2015 Class Schedule. See the 2016 Class Schedule. Bariatric Pre-Surgical Education

This class is designed to help patients prepare for their bariatric surgery at Enloe Medical Center. It provides a better idea of what to expect during the hospital visit and how to participate in the recovery process. Spouses, relatives and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend. Bariatric Post-Surgical Education

This two-hour class is offered starting at about one month after surgery. Participants get an opportunity to review important information and follow-up on special guidelines as their diet and other needs change. The class is held on two Thursdays each month. Cancer Center - New Patient Orientation

All newly diagnosed cancer patients and their caregivers are encouraged to attend. Hematology patients are also invited. Find out more about how to get the most out of your doctor’s visits, communicating with others about your diagnosis, managing financial and legal issues, dealing with stress related to diagnosis, and resources available to support you during and after treatment. Takes place Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to noon.Register at the reception area of your doctor’s office at the Cancer Center or by calling 332-3900. Location: Cancer Center Library, 265 Cohasset Road, Suite 120, Chico.

Chemotherapy Education

Being informed can help reduce stress and improve your experience! A brief introduction to chemotherapy and an opportunity to ask questions of an oncology nurse will be offered to those patients scheduled to begin chemotherapy. Caregivers also encouraged to attend.Takes place Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Register at the reception area of your doctor’s office at the Cancer Center or by calling 332-3900. Location: Cancer Center Library, 265 Cohasset Road, Suite 120, Chico.

♥ Cardiac Rehabilitation

Educational and exercise-conditioning classes for people with heart problems. The program is tailored to help each person improve their health, increase their strength and endurance, and to feel better. Sessions are directed by a Registered Nurse and an Exercise Physiologist. Diabetes Services & Education

  • Diabetes Education Services: Through self-management training, participants gain knowledge and self-care skills necessary to manage their condition effectively. Physician-referral required. (530) 332-6840
  • Sweet Success Program: Education and guidelines for women with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes who are pregnant and those with gestational diabetes. (530) 332-6840
  • Pre-Diabetes Class: This two-hour class is designed for ALL adults, whether you think you have diabetes or not. In fact, nearly a third of adults living with diabetes don’t even know they have it! During the class, participants will learn from health care professionals how to take charge of their health and lower their risk for diabetes with exercise and healthy eating. We’ll also discuss goal setting and available resources, as well as what your numbers really mean. $10 per person.   • Enloe Cardiac Rehabilitation: Education and exercise-conditioning classes for people with heart problems. Healthy Steps: The Lebed Method

Gentle therapeutic exercise to help regain range of motion, increase flexibility, reduce swelling from lymphedema, decrease depression, and promote positive self-image and joy! This class is gentle with easy movement, can be done sitting or standing - and it’s fun! Mondays, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Wednesdays 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., Fountain Medical Conference Room at the Fountain Medical Plaza, 251 Cohasset Road, Chico. Free with $10 materials fee. There will not be a Monday classes on Feb. 15 or March 14, but there will be a class on Jan. 18 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day).

Joint Effort

One-hour class helps patients prepare for total joint replacement surgery. Provides a better idea of what to expect during the hospital visit and how to participate in the recovery process. Gives an opportunity to ask questions of medical professionals and meet others who will be having the same surgery. Spouse, relatives or friends are welcome and encouraged to attend class. Held weekly on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Fountain Medical Conference Room at the Fountain Medical Conference Room at the Fountain Medical Plaza, 251 Cohasset Road, Chico. See the 2015 class schedule. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Clinic

An eight-week series, offered four times a year, and designed to reduce stress, anxiety, depression, chronic pain and the symptoms of many other stress-related disorders. MBSR is meant to complement not substitute medical treatments you may be receiving. Employee Assistance Program (EAP) benefits and health insurance coverage may apply. See the class schedule on the MBSR website. The cost is $395, which includes registration, textbook, workbook, audio recordings and a follow-up program. Classes are led by Steve Flowers, M.S., MFT. Physicians, nurses, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, and licensed clinical social workers may report 24 hours of Continuing Education for participating in this program (Category 1 Credit toward the California Medical Association in Continuing Medical Education). Pregnancy & Parenting Classes: Growing Healthy Babies and Families

Getting ready for a new baby and parenting are exciting and important times. Enloe Medical Center wants to help you and your family prepare. Stress Management

Stress is a major cause of illness and heart disease. This eight-week class helps participants and their families learn to manage the stresses of everyday life. Meets on Wednesdays at 9:45 a.m. No charge for class; $10 materials fee. Offered through Enloe Cardiac Rehabilitation. (530) 332-6898

Weekly Weight-Loss Surgery Informational Seminars

Free seminars led by bariatric surgeons Deron Ludwig, MD, and Erik Simchuk, MD, with intro by Enloe bariatric nurses. Covers topics related to weight-loss surgery, the disease of morbid obesity, health issues associated with obesity and information about surgical options. Seminars are held weekly on Wednesdays from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. except for the following dates in 2015 when it will be held from 10:30 to 12 p.m.: April 17, June 19, Aug. 21, Oct. 16 and Dec. 18.
