Wednesday, August 17 | Pet Therapy Volunteer Information Session

10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. | Chico Area Recreation & Park District Community Center, 545 Vallombrosia Ave., Chico
Please join us for this information session, presented in collaboration with Enloe Medical Center and Butte Human Society. Is your dog reliable, controllable and predictable? Are you friendly and enjoy visiting with people? You could make an excellent pet team. At this session you will learn about ways that you can volunteer with your dog and make a difference. Thursday, August 18 | Cancer Discussion Group Celebration

The Cancer Discussion Group celebrates another year! Join us for light, healthy food and drink, survivor stories, and special surprises. The Cancer Discussion Group is for patients and their caregivers at any stage of the cancer journey. Gain helpful information on a cancer wellness topic, then talk in small groups with other survivors in an atmosphere of encouragement and hope. This group meets on the third Thursday of every month from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Enloe Conference Center, 1528 Esplanade, across from the main hospital. Wednesday, August 24 | Second Wind Pulmonary Support Group

12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. | Enloe Outpatient Center, 888 Lakeside Village Commons, Building C, Classroom A, Chico
Learn better ways to cope with lung conditions while getting the support of others in similar situations. This welcoming group offers encouragement and education for people with lung conditions, their family and caregivers. Led by a trained facilitator, the group meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month. Wednesday, August 31 | Bariatric Buddies Support Group 
6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. | Enloe Conference Center, 1528 Esplanade, Chico

Join guest speaker Anna Coates, FNP, for an educational presentation about how to boost your metabolism for weight loss. The community is invited, no RSVP necessary. This group usually meets on the last Wednesday of the month from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Enloe Conference Center, 1528 Esplanade, across from the main hospital. Thursday, September 8 | Fact vs. Fiction: The Latest on Brain Health, Preventing Dementia and Treating Alzheimer's

Join Enloe Medical Center and your local Alzheimer's Assocation for a special event dedicated to brain health, dementia and Alzheimer's. Learn about the latest research and innovations, including how mindfulness can benefit both patients and caregivers, as well as early detection, intervention models and treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Local neurologist Joel Rothfeld, MD, PhD, will share insight into the differences between dementia and Alzheimer's disease, followed by a guided mindfulness exercise with Steve Flowers, MS, MFT. Elizabeth Edgerly, PhD, from the Alzheimer's Association, returns as our keynote speaker, bringing details of the latest research, including the concept of "exercise as medicine." RSVP online to save your space today. Bring a photo ID such as a driver’s license, drink plenty of fluids and eat a good meal within four hours before giving blood. Donors must be age 16 (with a signed parental consent form) to adult. Thank you for helping save lives!

Tuesday, Sept. 20 | Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction - Fall Series - Led by Steve Flowers, M.S., MFT

6:30 p.m. (Tuesday evenings) | Enloe Outpatient Center, 888 Lakeside Village Commons, Chico
The Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR) is an eight-week program offered three times per year on Tuesday evenings and includes a day-long class on Saturday of the 6th week. This program helps you learn how to relate directly to whatever is happening in your life and take charge of your life in a practical way. It helps you mobilize your own inner resources and do for yourself what no one else can do for you - consciously, systematically, and effectively work with the challenges and demands of day to day life. The cost is $395 which includes a workbook, audio files or CDs and a free follow-up program. Employee Assistance benefits and health insurance coverage may be applied for partial coverage of cost. Saturday, October 1 | Walk With a Doc

8 a.m. to 9 a.m. | Baroni Park

Join emergency medicine physician Monty Leavitt, MD, for the October Walk with a Doc at Baroni Park. We'll start out with a brief inspirational talk about safe exercise habits, then walk some laps around this nice little neighborhood park. All ages and abilities are welcome! (Remaining dates for 2016 are October 1 and December 3.) Walk regularly throughout the month and track your time on a walking log, then bring it with you to the next “Walk with a Doc” for a chance to win a fun prize!

Thursday, October 20 | Pre-Diabetes Class

6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Check-in at 5:30 p.m. | Enloe Outpatient Center, 888 Lakeside Village Commons, Building C, Classroom A, Chico
This two-hour class is designed for ALL adults, whether you have pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes risk factors or are simply interested in healthier living. Nearly a third of adults living with diabetes don’t even know they have it. During the class, participants will learn from health care professionals how to take charge of their health and lower their risk for diabetes with exercise and healthy eating. We’ll also discuss goal setting and available resources, as well as what your numbers really mean. $10 per person. Register and pay online today to reserve your space.

Thursday, October 27 | “It’s Your Move”… FREE Knee, Hip & Shoulder Joint Pain Event

Join us for this free seminar to learn about joint health and treatment options, understand quality initiatives at Enloe, explore educational exhibits, ask questions of the physicians and physical therapist. Join Psychiatrist Dr. Asad Amir, for the December Walk with a Doc at the Chico Mall. We'll start out with a brief inspirational talk and then walk some laps around the mall. Walks will take place the first Saturday of each month, except January and September. Each walk begins with a brief inspirational talk. All ages and abilities are welcome! Walk regularly throughout the month and track your time on a walking log, then bring it with you to the next “Walk with a Doc” for a chance to win a fun prize!

Asthma Education

Back in Action

This free class provides education before your spine surgery and is an opportunity to enhance your hospital experience. Our goal is to help you and your caregiver become active participants in your own health care, and aid you in a speedy recovery. We will discuss the surgical process and how to participate in your own recovery. Members of your care team will be available to answer your questions. Meet other patients who are preparing for the same type of surgery. Family members or friends are encouraged to attend class with you. Held monthly on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Enloe Rehabilitation Center Conference Room, 340 W. East Ave., Chico. See the 2015 Class Schedule. See the 2016 Class Schedule. Bariatric Pre-Surgical Education

This class is designed to help patients prepare for their bariatric surgery at Enloe Medical Center. It provides a better idea of what to expect during the hospital visit and how to participate in the recovery process. Spouses, relatives and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend. Bariatric Post-Surgical Education

This two-hour class is offered starting at about one month after surgery. Participants get an opportunity to review important information and follow-up on special guidelines as their diet and other needs change. The class is held on two Thursdays each month. Cancer Center - New Patient Orientation

All newly diagnosed cancer patients and their caregivers are encouraged to attend. Hematology patients are also invited. Find out more about how to get the most out of your doctor’s visits, communicating with others about your diagnosis, managing financial and legal issues, dealing with stress related to diagnosis, and resources available to support you during and after treatment. Takes place Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to noon.Register at the reception area of your doctor’s office at the Cancer Center or by calling 332-3900. Location: Cancer Center Library, 265 Cohasset Road, Suite 120, Chico.

Chemotherapy Education

Being informed can help reduce stress and improve your experience! A brief introduction to chemotherapy and an opportunity to ask questions of an oncology nurse will be offered to those patients scheduled to begin chemotherapy. Caregivers also encouraged to attend.Takes place Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Register at the reception area of your doctor’s office at the Cancer Center or by calling 332-3900. Location: Cancer Center Library, 265 Cohasset Road, Suite 120, Chico.

♥ Cardiac Rehabilitation

Educational and exercise-conditioning classes for people with heart problems. The program is tailored to help each person improve their health, increase their strength and endurance, and to feel better. Sessions are directed by a Registered Nurse and an Exercise Physiologist. CPR Classes

Diabetes Services & Education

  • Diabetes Education Services: Through self-management training, participants gain knowledge and self-care skills necessary to manage their condition effectively. Physician-referral required. (530) 332-6840
  • Sweet Success Program: Education and guidelines for women with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes who are pregnant and those with gestational diabetes. (530) 332-6840

Healthy Steps: The Lebed Method

Gentle therapeutic exercise to help regain range of motion, increase flexibility, reduce swelling from lymphedema, decrease depression, and promote positive self-image and joy! This class is gentle with easy movement, can be done sitting or standing - and it’s fun! Mondays, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Wednesdays 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., Fountain Medical Conference Room at the Fountain Medical Plaza, 251 Cohasset Road, Chico. Free with $10 materials fee. There will not be a Monday classes on Feb. 15 or March 14, but there will be a class on Jan. 18 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day).

Infertility Support Group

If you are in need of comfort, understanding, and support regarding infertility, we welcome you to come discover you are not alone in the journey. This support group is designed to help create a safe sense of community. It meets on the first Thursday of every month from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Enloe Conference Center, 1528 Esplanade, and often includes a guest speaker. Joint Effort

One-hour class helps patients prepare for total joint replacement surgery. Provides a better idea of what to expect during the hospital visit and how to participate in the recovery process. Gives an opportunity to ask questions of medical professionals and meet others who will be having the same surgery. Spouse, relatives or friends are welcome and encouraged to attend class. Held weekly on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Fountain Medical Conference Room at the Fountain Medical Conference Room at the Fountain Medical Plaza, 251 Cohasset Road, Chico. See the 2015 class schedule. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Clinic

An eight-week series, offered four times a year, and designed to reduce stress, anxiety, depression, chronic pain and the symptoms of many other stress-related disorders. MBSR is meant to complement not substitute medical treatments you may be receiving. Employee Assistance Program (EAP) benefits and health insurance coverage may apply. See the class schedule on the MBSR website. The cost is $395, which includes registration, textbook, workbook, audio recordings and a follow-up program. Classes are led by Steve Flowers, M.S., MFT. Physicians, nurses, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, and licensed clinical social workers may report 24 hours of Continuing Education for participating in this program (Category 1 Credit toward the California Medical Association in Continuing Medical Education). Pregnancy & Parenting Classes: Growing Healthy Babies and Families

Getting ready for a new baby and parenting are exciting and important times. Enloe Medical Center wants to help you and your family prepare. Weekly Weight-Loss Surgery Informational Seminars

Free seminars led by bariatric surgeons Deron Ludwig, MD, and Erik Simchuk, MD, with intro by Enloe bariatric nurses. Covers topics related to weight-loss surgery, the disease of morbid obesity, health issues associated with obesity and information about surgical options. Seminars are held weekly on Wednesdays from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. except for the following dates in 2015 when it will be held from 10:30 to 12 p.m.: April 17, June 19, Aug. 21, Oct. 16 and Dec. 18.
