Thursday, September 10 Help and Hope for Alzheimer's Disease

6 p.m. to 8 p.m. | Enloe Conference Center, 1528 Esplanade, Chico

Join Enloe Medical Center and the Alzheimer’s Association for this free community education program for any individual seeking information on Alzheimer’s disease. Elizabeth Edgerly, PhD, clinical psychologist and Chief Program Officer of the Alzheimer’s Association, Northern California & Northern Nevada chapters, will explore causes, early identification and possible future treatments for Alzheimer's. We'll also discuss what we know about reducing your risk of developing dementia and the latest in Alzheimer's research. In addition, representatives from Enloe’s HomeCare and Case Management departments will share insight and information for assisting with care. To save your space, register online or call (530) 895-9661.

Thursday, September 17 | Cancer Discussion Group | Topic: Peace of Mind: Making Your Wishes Known

Whether you have cancer or not, there is a sense of relief when you know you have your affairs in order. Learn about what should be included in your end-of-life documents and explore tools that can make it easier to let your loved ones know your wishes.

Saturday, September 19 | Walk with a Doc

8 a.m. to 9 a.m. | Baroni Park, Chico
Gynecologist Dr. Mark Garrison will lead this month's Walk With a Doc. Community members of all ages and abilities are invited! On the third Saturday of every month, a doctor from a different specialty will lead a walk and give a health-inspiring message. Walking just 30 minutes, 5 days a week could earn you a Fleet Feet gift card! Download this walking log so you can track of your walking dates, times and distance.

Friday, September 25 | 30th Annual Enloe Foundation Golf Tournament

Butte Creek Country Club, Chico
The Enloe Foundation is excited to celebrate their 30th anniversary for this year’s Enloe Foundation Golf Tournament, Friday, Sept. 25. Since 1986 the Enloe Foundation has raised over $1.9 million to support Enloe Medical Center’s programs, equipment, and facilities to better serve their patients and the regional community. This year’s tournament is proud to announce that all proceeds will benefit the future Enloe Cardiovascular Care Center and the Golf Nursing Scholarship Fund. See you on the green! This two-hour class is designed for ALL adults, whether you think you have diabetes or not. In fact, nearly a third of adults living with diabetes don’t even know they have it! During the class, participants will learn from health care professionals how to take charge of their health and lower their risk for diabetes with exercise and healthy eating. We’ll also discuss goal setting and available resources, as well as what your numbers really mean. $10 per person. Register and pay online today to reserve your space.

Asthma Education

Back in Action

This free class provides education before your spine surgery and is an opportunity to enhance your hospital experience. Our goal is to help you and your caregiver become active participants in your own health care, and aid you in a speedy recovery. We will discuss the surgical process and how to participate in your own recovery. Members of your care team will be available to answer your questions. Meet other patients who are preparing for the same type of surgery. Family members or friends are encouraged to attend class with you. Held monthly on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Enloe Rehabilitation Center Conference Room, 340 W. East Ave., Chico. See the 2015 Class Schedule. Registration recommended. Please contact your surgeon's office for registration.

Bariatric Pre-Surgical Education

This class is designed to help patients prepare for their bariatric surgery at Enloe Medical Center. It provides a better idea of what to expect during the hospital visit and how to participate in the recovery process. Spouses, relatives and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend. Bariatric Post-Surgical Education

This two-hour class is offered starting at about one month after surgery. Participants get an opportunity to review important information and follow-up on special guidelines as their diet and other needs change. The class is held on two Thursdays each month. ♥ Cardiac Rehabilitation

Educational and exercise-conditioning classes for people with heart problems. The program is tailored to help each person improve their health, increase their strength and endurance, and to feel better. Sessions are directed by a Registered Nurse and an Exercise Physiologist. CPR Classes

Diabetes Services & Education

  • Diabetes Education Services: Through self-management training, participants gain knowledge and self-care skills necessary to manage their condition effectively. Physician-referral required. (530) 332-6840
  • Sweet Success Program: Education and guidelines for women with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes who are pregnant and those with gestational diabetes. (530) 332-6840

  • Enloe Cardiac Rehabilitation: Education and exercise-conditioning classes for people with heart problems. Healthy Steps: The Lebed Method

Gentle therapeutic exercise to help regain range of motion, increase flexibility, reduce swelling from lymphedema, decrease depression, and promote positive self-image and joy! This class is gentle with easy movement, can be done sitting or standing - and it’s fun! Mondays, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Wednesdays 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., Fountain Medical Conference Room at the Fountain Medical Plaza, 251 Cohasset Road, Chico. Free with $10 materials fee. Pre-registration required. Call Mary Jo at (530) 228-4753 or David at (530) 332-3877. There will be not be a Monday classes on July 13 or Sept. 7, 2015.

A Joint Effort

One-hour class helps patients prepare for total joint replacement surgery. Provides a better idea of what to expect during the hospital visit and how to participate in the recovery process. Gives an opportunity to ask questions of medical professionals and meet others who will be having the same surgery. Spouse, relatives or friends are welcome and encouraged to attend class. Held weekly on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Fountain Medical Conference Room at the Fountain Medical Conference Room at the Fountain Medical Plaza, 251 Cohasset Road, Chico. See the 2015 class schedule. Please contact your orthopedic surgeon's office for registration.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Clinic

An eight-week series, offered four times a year, and designed to reduce stress, anxiety, depression, chronic pain and the symptoms of many other stress-related disorders. MBSR is meant to complement not substitute medical treatments you may be receiving. Employee Assistance Program (EAP) benefits and health insurance coverage may apply. See the class schedule on the MBSR website. The cost is $395, which includes registration, textbook, workbook, audio recordings and a follow-up program. Classes are led by Steve Flowers, M.S., MFT. Physicians, nurses, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, and licensed clinical social workers may report 24 hours of Continuing Education for participating in this program (Category 1 Credit toward the California Medical Association in Continuing Medical Education). Weekly Weight-Loss Surgery Informational Seminars

Free seminars led by bariatric surgeons Deron Ludwig, MD, and Erik Simchuk, MD, with intro by Enloe bariatric nurses. Covers topics related to weight-loss surgery, the disease of morbid obesity, health issues associated with obesity and information about surgical options. Seminars are held weekly on Wednesdays from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. except for the following dates when it will be held from 10:30 to 12 p.m.: April 17, June 19, Aug. 21, Oct. 16 and Dec. 18.
