Local family doctor recognized by the California
CHICO, Calif., Jan. 3, 2012 – The California Hospital Association (CHA) recently presented Marcia Nelson, MD, Enloe Medical Center's Vice President of Medical Affairs, with the Ritz E. Heerman Memorial Award for outstanding contributions to the improvement of patient care in California. As a family physician, she also continues to see patients in her private practice at Mission Ranch Primary Care.
Dr. Nelson has been an instrumental leader in Enloe’s quality improvement journey, organizing and facilitating Enloe’s first Quality Summit in 2009 and subsequent summits annually. These events highlight the past year’s quality improvement successes and help set the new priorities. The Quality Summits have led to volunteer physician champions leading multidisciplinary teams that have positively impacted patient care at the medical center. Enloe’s 2011 Quality Summit Annual Report is available online at www.enloe.org/quality.
“What we are doing here in our medical center is much bigger than just Enloe,” said Dr. Nelson. “It has the potential to change how other organizations approach quality. It’s quite a privilege to be part of this team!”
The Ritz E. Heerman Memorial Award is named in honor of the CHA’s first president. The association has been recognizing physicians with this award since 1960. Dr. Nelson received her award on Dec. 15 at CHA Board of Trustees meeting, and the CHA announced the award Dec. 23.
