The late Dr. John Howard selected as
Physician Legacy Award recipient

CHICO, Calif., Jan. 3, 2012 – Each year, the Enloe Physician Legacy Award recognizes a member of the Enloe Medical Staff for exceptional service, leadership and performance in medicine and the community. The honoree for 2011, announced in December, is the late John Howard, MD, a respected and well-loved hematology and oncology physician who died suddenly at age 65 on May 4, 2011.

In accepting the award on Dr. Howard’s behalf, Mrs. Leslie Howard thanked the medical staff for honoring her husband. She expressed appreciation for the staffs of Enloe and Dr. Howard’s office for their support. She said her husband had frequently told her he felt so lucky to be able to work with them and to give his patients the care they deserved.

Dr. Howard was selected for the award by the Medical Executive Committee, composed of physicians who have been elected by their peers to lead the Medical Staff at Enloe Medical Center.

Dr. Howard was a member of Enloe’s Medical Staff since 1983. He played a key role within the Enloe Regional Cancer Center. He served as Chief of Staff at Enloe from 2007 through 2008 and served as a Board of Trustee member during that time. Dr. Howard was also the assistant medical director of BloodSource in Chico since 1986.

In 2009, he was also a recipient of Enloe’s annual Spirit of Planetree Physician Award. Dr. Howard was known for his kindness, compassion, intelligence and approachable, friendly manner. He shared his expertise and caring nature with many.

Dr. Howard is survived by his wife of 42 years, Leslie Taylor Howard, and their daughters Leah Langheim, Rebecca Golino and Mariah Hammons.
