CHICO, Calif., July 20, 2011 – Enloe Medical Center is sad to report the loss of J.B. Wilson, long-time Enloe Medical Center leader and local businessman. Wilson, 78, of Chico, died on Thursday, July 14. His family will hold a memorial service Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 3 p.m. at Butte Creek Country Club. Gifts in memory of J.B. Wilson co-owned the Butte County Credit Bureau along with his wife Vonnie and other family members. Until recently, Wilson was also the chairman of the board of Mid Valley Title and Escrow.
Among his service to the community, Wilson served on the Enloe Medical Center and Enloe Health System Boards of Trustees for a combined total of 26 years, from 1973 to 1999. These are volunteer positions that do not provide financial compensation. While on the medical center board, from 1973 to 1990, Wilson served as secretary, vice president and vice chairman. While a member of the Enloe Health System board from 1983 to 1999, Wilson acted as its first director and later held the positions of vice chairman and chairman. As chair, from 1991 through 1999, he became an ex-officio member of the Enloe Medical Center Board of Trustees and the Enloe Foundation Board of Directors. Additionally, Wilson was a member of the finance committee of the Enloe Board of Trustees for many years, a service he provided until April 2011.
Due to Wilson’s dedication and loyalty, the Enloe Board of Trustees recognized him as an Emeritus Trustee in June 2011 and presented him with the Outstanding Service Award in 1990. In 1998 Wilson received Enloe’s Circle of Champions Award for outstanding service and contributions to the medical center.
Wilson also chaired the board of the former North State National Bank of Chico and was a current member of the board of the Northern California National Bank. Additionally, he was active in the YMCA board and the Butte County Juvenile Justice Commission and was past chair of the city’s personnel board. Wilson belonged to Chico Elks, Chico Rotary and the Butte Creek Country Club. He was a graduate of Chico High School and California State University, Chico. Wilson served in the United States Army from 1954 through 1956.
Over the years, Wilson’s family has continued J.B.’s legacy of service to Enloe Medical Center. His wife, Evonne (Vonnie), served the Enloe Auxiliary from 1966 to 2002 and volunteered in the Enloe Gift Shop for more than 30 years. In the family’s honor, the new Gift Shop within the Enloe Century Project will be named the J.B. and Vonnie Wilson Family Gift Shop. Their daughter Patti Souza currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Enloe Foundation; and their son Jim Wilson has served on the Enloe Foundation Golf Tournament Committee and was Chairman in 2006 and 2007.
