Local-born medical missionary, author to give presentation June 15
CHICO, Calif., June 10, 2010 – The Enloe Foundation and Project S.A.V.E. present a speaking engagement with Bill McCoy, MD, an author and medical missionary working in the highlands of Papua New Guinea who was born in Oroville, Calif. The event takes place Tuesday, June 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Enloe Conference Center, 1528 Esplanade, Room 102, Chico. Parking will be available in the Enloe Parking Structure, at 6th and Magnolia Avenues.
In 2004, Project S.A.V.E. shipped by sea its first container of medical equipment and supplies to Dr. McCoy’s hospital and has continued to ship a container annually.
McCoy received his doctorate in medicine from the University of California San Diego in l980. After completing his residency and establishing a family practice in California, he and his family left to serve in Swaziland from l985 to 1993 and in Papua New Guinea from l996 to the present.
Project S.A.V.E. (Salvage All Valuable Equipment), recycles medical equipment and supplies received from professional organizations, clinics, hospitals and individuals, and ships them worldwide to hospitals and clinics in need. The organization was founded in l996 by Dr. Phyllis Cullen and has been directed since 2004 by Janice Walker.
The Enloe Foundation, a not-for-profit 501 [c] 3 organization, is led by a community volunteer board of directors and supports Enloe Medical Center through donations.
