Enloe Volunteer Services to offer training for TELECARE callers

Jan. 5 training to include information and resources

CHICO, Calif., Dec. 30, 2009 – Enloe Medical Center is seeking volunteers for its TELECARE Telephone Reassurance Program, and will offer volunteer training on Tuesday, Jan. 5. TELECARE is a free service, provided by the Enloe Volunteers, for people age 60 and older who live alone in Butte County and would feel reassured by a friendly phone call to check in.

The volunteer training class will take place Tuesday, Jan. 5 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Participants will receive the necessary training, information and resources. Interested parties should call Enloe Volunteer Services at (530) 332-4575 for more information and an application. It is encouraged but not required to complete an application before participating in the training class.

TELECARE volunteers make a morning phone call two or three times a week to check on the wellbeing of clients. Calls may be made from home if Internet access is available for logging the call. TELECARE volunteers are formed into teams of two or three who share a common call list to divide among the days of the week. Each call is logged daily.

Each new volunteer at Enloe is also required to complete the application process and complete a background check before volunteering.

The TELECARE program is part of Enloe’s Planetree approach to offering patient-centered care, helping to address the Planetree component called healthy communities. Planetree is an internationally recognized not-for-profit organization that connects hospitals with tools and ideas for demystifying and personalizing the health care experience for patients.
