Dr. James Wood receives
Enloe’s Physician Legacy Award
CHICO, Calif., May 2005 -- James Wood, MD, a local pediatrician, has been selected as the recipient of the 2005 Enloe Physician Legacy Award for exceptional service and performance in medicine and the community. He was presented with the award at the Enloe Medical Staff Meeting in March.
Dr. Wood has served as the Pediatrics Department Chair at Enloe and as the Medical Director for the Enloe Children’s Health Center, an Enloe-subsidized health clinic that cares for all area children, regardless of their ability to pay. Last year the clinic provided more than 15,000 patient visits. Dr. Wood also has served children at Loma Vista School, as well as in his private pediatric practice in Chico.
In his many letters of recommendation for this award he is described as an advocate for the most vulnerable children of our area and a caring, compassionate team motivator. Dr. Wood completed his residency and fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, relocating to Chico in 1973. He received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and his medical degree from U.C. Irvine.
Since the award began last year, physicians, Enloe employees and the public have nominated more than 60 physicians to receive the recognition. Nominations are carried over from year to year for reconsideration along with new nominations. Donald Heithecker, M.D., an ear, nose and throat specialist, received the award last year.
