Volunteer Service Areas

Volunteers at Enloe Medical Center enhance the experience of patients and their families by providing services that complement the outstanding care of our caregivers. The best gift volunteer can give is the gift of time: Time to escort a visitor to their destination, to run a delivery or errand for a nurse, to sit and chat with a patient. All these actions help Enloe to provide exceptional service to our patients.

Service Area Descriptions

There are many different ways that volunteers assist throughout the medical center.

Enloe Regional Cancer Center

At the Enloe Regional Cancer Center, volunteers provide companionship and emotional support to patients and their families. Volunteer service areas at the Cancer Center are designed meet these patients' unique needs and include Guest Services, Patient Ambassador and Specialty Programs.

Caring For You Cart

Care Ambassadors positively impact the visitor experience by rolling our Caring for You Cart to areas throughout the hospital where families members are waiting. The cart is stocked with coffee, diversions and comfort items that are offered free of charge. Care Ambassadors are quick to smile and they have the ability to make conversation that can help brighten someone's day.

Community Outreach

Volunteers impact the daily life of our community members by providing a service to people outside the hospital. Outreach volunteers might be called upon to staff a booth or work at a community event or they may be dedicated to a specific project that focuses on community members.

Gift Shop Associates

Gift Shop Associates provide a caring retail environment for staff and visitors inside the medical center's beautiful shop. The Gift Shop is the largest fund-raiser of the Enloe Volunteers. Learn more about what the Gift Shop has to offer.

Guest Services

Volunteers in Guest Services placements help to positively impact the patient and visitor experience by creating a welcoming and compassionate environment. Guest Services volunteers provide reception, run errands and assist with a variety of support tasks. They are friendly, outgoing and active in responding to the needs of patients, staff, and visitors.

High School Junior Volunteers

Patient Ambassadors

Patient Ambassadors are a highly trained group of volunteers who provide visitation and advocacy for our patients, at the bedside. These volunteers round from room to room on an assigned floor, meeting non-medical needs, providing emotional support and partnering with staff in providing a caring environment. Patient Ambassadors are compassionate, good listeners and emotionally mature. Training takes six to nine months. Applications are accepted several times a year. Check the posting currently available opportunities for an application and deadlines.

Specialty Programs

Some community members share a very specific ability or talent with our patients and visitors. Enloe's patient-centered care model of health care has allowed for the creation of several programs that have a unique function of support tailored to these specialties.

Musicians

Volunteer Musicians help to create a healing environment by playing soothing, pleasant music. This helps to reduce anxiety, provides diversion and supports a sense of wellbeing. Auditions are held throughout the year.

P.A.W.S. (Pets Assisting With Service)

Pet teams provide joy and diversion by visiting patients, visitors and staff members. Not just any dog can be a volunteer! The pet and its human handler must be registered with Pet Partners, a nationally recognized non-profit organization that certifies animals and handlers to ensure safety and standards in the health care setting. Once your dog is certified with Pet Partners, the human end of the team can become an official Enloe Volunteer. Pet visits are rewarding to patients and staff as well as volunteers (both human and animal). Learn more at petpartners.org to get started.

Spiritual Support Volunteers

The Spiritual Support Volunteer Program serves Enloe Medical Center by providing for the spiritual well-being of the patients, families and staff of Enloe Medical Center, regardless of their faith tradition, or those whose spirituality is experienced away from religious context. The Spiritual Support Volunteer Team is an interfaith group of community members  who provide services that are supportive, respectful, unbiased and trustworthy, honoring all traditions and the great variety of ways in which we as people experience our spiritual lives.

White Rose Companions

White Rose Companions help provide dying patients and their family and friends with a supportive and comforting environment that is quiet, respectful and compassionate. At the request of family or the patient's social worker, these specially trained volunteers are called in to help with end-of-life transition. White Rose Companions must also be active Hospice or Patient Ambassador Volunteers.
